6 MONTHS LATERDear Aubrey, (03/20/86)
I am sorry you did not get into the university you wanted to. Or your "backup" school. But Joyce says a bunch of wisecracks go to NYU anyways, so it was for the better. But I know you must be sad about it. I thought Jonathan would be sad you aren't going to the same school as him but he seemed happy actually. Maybe he wants to get away from you. I now realize my jokes don't translate well on paper. That was a joke. He is probably sad. He is always sad. And he smells funny.
I ask Will what the smell is and he tells me it's because he misses you so much!! Isn't that nice? We all miss you a lot. I heard Joyce crying after your call with her on Sunday, I think she might just miss you as much as I do. But she never shows us when she's sad. She always keeps happy smiles on her face for us.
Speaking of Jonathan, he has these funny plants in his room that he said I'm not supposed to tell you about, but you are our sister (And my bestest friend) so I wanted to tell you. I know Will said the smell on Jonathan is because he misses you, but I think it's from the plants... and I think the plants make him sad. Sad because not only does he miss you and Nancy but because his college letter hasn't come in either. He knows Nancy got in so I think that's why he's sad because he really wants to go to school with her. What if he doesn't get in? Will Nancy dump him? Or will he dump her? Can they still date?
I just don't want them to break up because it will be weird for Mike and I in the future at family gatherings. Plus Nancy is really pretty and good for Jonathan. He only ever seems to smile when we talk about her. Anyways, Joyce says that sometimes letters come in later for other people. So it must be coming soon.
