Steve was white knuckled, driving Aubrey's car faster than she ever even imagined it could go. The Demogorgon ahead of them was moving fast, and they didn't like where it seemed to be heading. This had launched Aubrey into a panic and the whole car into chaos.
"We can't assume anything!" Dustin yelled at Aubrey from the passengers seat.
"Yes, we can!" Aubrey scoffed, "Go faster!" she told Steve.
"I'm trying, Aub." he responded through gritted teeth, pressing the gas as hard as he could without breaking the pedal.
The closer they got to the farm, the more the lights began to flicker. And then they had ripped through
the dirt, "Holy shit!" Dustin pointed.
The Demogorgon was backing out of the barn; somebody was fending him off, swinging an axe back and forth.
"Steve!" everyone yelled at him.
He took a deep breath, "Hang on!"
The closer they got, the farther the creature backed out of the barn, giving them the perfect shot to hit him. Aubrey finally got a good enough view and could make out who had been fighting the Demogorgan off. Her mom.
"Steve!" she screamed, as if he could go any faster. She knows he couldn't, but god, it felt like it was taking them a lifetime to finally catch up to this Demo.
Thankfully, the car smashed right into the monster: sending it flying over the hood and under their dust. Joyce was unscathed, and everyone was relieved.
"Yeah! We got him! We got him!" Dustin laughed. Steve whipped the car around, facing the monster head-on now, waiting for its next move.
Instead of charging at them, it ran.
It ran and ripped a gate straight through the silo ahead of them. "It flipped! It's headed back towards us!" Dustin told them as he watched the signal.
Steve didn't move. "Come on! What are you doing, man? We gotta turn around!" Jonathan urged him.
"Wait, wait, wait." Steve held his hand up, "Gates are kind of like Peanut Butter Boppers, right?" he asked suddenly.
Everyone stared at him in disbelief, "What?!" they all questioned.
"The outside is, like, crunchy and tough," he explained, "But then you bite down on it, it gives way to a gooey, creamy core."
Nick looked over at Bea, "Is he seriously talking about candy right now?"
"Dude, what the hell are you talking about?" Jonathan scolded him.
"I drive fast enough, I think Aub's car could punch a hole through the gate, and then we can track the Demo on its home turf in the Upside Down," he told them, "Follow it straight back to it's home."
Jesus Christ, as if Aubrey's car wasn't already fucked up enough as is. Now it was about to go on an inter-dimensional chase?
"We're losing the signal!" Dustin yelled at him.
"We're not gonna be able to follow anything if we crash!" Jonathan yelled at him.
"We're not gonna crash if it's like a Bopper!" Steve argued.
"And we don't even know if your theory is correct!" Bea added, "Knowing our luck, we'll get pancaked right into that silo and die!"
"It's almost gone!" Dustin screamed.
Steve looked back at Nancy, then Aubrey. They had both been silent. "Aubs?" he asked her.
She bit her lip, really trying to think it over. She glanced over at Nancy. The gate was closing faster than she could think; however, "Do it," she blurted out. They needed to find Holly.
