33. the massacre at hawkins lab

In the Upside Down, Steve was being eaten alive by some kind of bat looking creatures.

Everyone had found him, Aubrey quickly grabbed a boat paddle that was on the floor and hit one of them off of him.

All hell broke loose as they began to fight off these monsters, "Hold it Robin!" Aubrey yelled at her to step on the one that was around Steve's neck as she beat it with the oar.

"Aubrey! Behind you!" Eddie yelled as one of them landed on her back, she screamed as it bit into her shoulder. Robin and Rue started fighting to get it off of her. Steve finally got ahold the one from behind his neck as Rue stabbed the one they yanked off of Aubrey's back.

Eddie stabbed another one with the broken oar as Nick launched one away with the other half.

Steve finally, ripped the tail from the bat that had been choking him off, spitting out its blood.

"Steve." Aubrey walked over to him quickly.

"Oh my god." Beatrice breathed out, all of them out of breath.

"Jesus H. Christ!" Eddie yelled.

"Are you okay?" Aubrey inspected Steve's torso, it looked bad.

"Well, they took about a pound of flesh." Steve looked down at himself, "But other than that... yeah, never better." he looked up at her.

She scoffed, pulling him in and hugging him. As they pulled away he looked at his hand, now covered in Aubrey's own blood from her shoulder, "Jesus- Aub, are you okay?!" he asked her now.

She shook her head, "I'm fine, they only got me a little bit. Can't even feel it." she told him.

"Uh, do you guys think these bats have, like, rabies?" Robin asked.

"What?" Rue looked at her as Aubrey and Steve pulled away.

"It's just that rabies are, like, my number one greatest fear." She continued, paranoid, "And I think we should probably get you to a doctor like really soon because once the symptoms set in, it's too late. You're already like... dead." she rambled.

Steve and Aubrey just looked at each other in disbelief. "I don't think they have doctors here, Rob." Beatrice told her, as she took in their surroundings.

They heard monsters screeching in the distance, more bats were on their way. Everyone gathered together as the bats gathered around the gate, "Alright, there's not that many." Steve whispered, "We can take 'em. Right?"

They looked up as hundreds more flew in the sky, "You were saying?" Nick replied.

Nancy looked over, "The woods! Come on." she led them as they all began to run towards it.

"Great! More running!" Robin scoffed. She really did have an odd run.

They ran through the Upside-Down woods, looking for any spot to hide from the bats. Aubrey remembered this place, from when her and Nancy accidentally crawled straight through a gate three years ago. She didn't plan on ever coming back.

They eventually found Skull Rock and all took shelter underneath it, hoping those bats would vanish soon.

"Okay." Robin slowly stood up, as did the rest of them.

"That was close." Rue sighed.

"Yeah, too close." Eddie's voice cracked.

"Oh, sh-shit..." Steve fell over onto a rock.

"Steve?" Aubrey rushed to his side, "Oh my god."

"I'm fine. I'm fine." he tried to pull himself back up.
