chapter seven, the first ball.
THE QUEEN DECIDED SHE WAS GOING TO HOLD A BALL, specifically for the ten girls. The ten girls were provided dresses by royal stylists, made custom for them.
Francesca's dress was a shimmery, burnt gold color. The dress had an off the shoulder neckline, and the bodice cinched her waist perfectly, and right as it hit her waist the fabric fell into puffy swirls of material. The dress was fit for a princess, and it fit Francesca perfectly. It was much better than the plain blue dress her mother made her wear for the presentation. She looked like a princess instead of a boring noble woman.
Soon enough, the ball began. Every one of the ten girls was announced at the ball, courtesy of before their King, Queen and Prince.
It started with Miss Kate Crawford, then it went to Miss Clara Reneé, and then to Miss Anna Barks. After the long list came to an end, much like on the actual list, Francesca Heart was announced last. All eyes looked at the young brunette, especially Prince Aaron's. His eyes did not waver from her figure, even as she walked away.
As the night progressed, Francesca found herself standing near the lemonade table, avoiding the harsh gazes of society. Not too long after Francesca's entrance Aaron found his way towards the girl.
"Miss Francesca," He bowed his head, a sign of respect that the royal family rarely offered. Francesca also bowed her head, a soft smile playing on her lips.
"Prince Aaron, how lovely to make your acquaintance," Francesca smiled, turning away from him as to hide the faint blush of her cheeks.
"Enjoying your ball?" Aaron smiled, watching the couples dancing on the floor, his gaze flickering to Francesca every so often. His eyes seemed to have a mind of its own, they only wanted to look at Francesca and only her.
"It is not my ball," Francesca giggled softly, hiding her smile with her hand. Francesca couldn't resist the urge to look at Aaron, but she immediately looked away when she realized he was already staring.
"But it is in your honor, Miss Francesca," Aaron states, his hand pointing at the girl slightly. He was a hand talker, Francesca noticed that during their first conversation.
"Not really, it is in your honor, my Prince. It is in your honor based on the fact that one of these girls will soon be your wife." Francesca pointed out. Aaron rolled his eyes, a small smile tugging onto his lips.
"Don't remind me," he groaned, his face pulling into an uncomfortable twist, a jeer evident on his features. Francesca laughed softly, her eyes scanning over Aaron's oh so princely features. People were right about the fact that he is devilishly handsome.
However, the rumors of him being cruel and unkind to people he didn't appreciate were wrong. Not once had Aaron been rude to Francesca or anyone else while Francesca was present. If the rumors were true he surely would have shown himself by now.
"What?" Aaron smiled at the girl who had been staring at him for a few seconds. His heart thumped in his chest, his nerves made him want to bounce off the walls. Why was he feeling like this? Was he ill?
"You're just.......you're not at all what people say about you."
"And what do people say about me, Francesca?"
"That you're cruel, mean, rude, a cold and handsome." Francesca let the last one slip, causing her eyes to widen. Her heart sped up in fear but calmed down once she saw Aaron laugh.
"Well, I'd like to think I'm at least a little bit handsome." Aaron jeered, a smile on his face as he watched Francesca's reaction. Francesca bumped into him slightly, a small laugh sounding from her lips.
"You know what I meant," she smiled, looking over at Aaron. For the rest of the night the two talked and talked, not once going to the dance floor. Aaron didn't leave Francesca's side, and Francesca didn't leave Aaron's side. The two were inseparable.
The other nine girls caught onto this, frowns finding their ways onto their faces. It wasn't fair, was it? Why did Francesca get to be with the Prince all night and they couldn't?
The King and Queen watched Francesca and Aaron all night, a small smile playing on their lips. It was from then on they knew that they would have to speak to Aaron about talking to the other girls. After all, it would look like favoritism. Well, it was, but that shouldn't be known.
The night ended in Aaron walking Francesca to her room, laughter filling them as the two bonded. They became fast friends and found home in their conversations. Francesca tried to ignore the whole topic of marriage all together, and so did Aaron. But, sooner rather than later he would need to get serious. He needed to divide his attention and affections to others besides Francesca, much to his dismay.
