chapter thirteen, no one will get away with that.

AT NIGHTFALL AARON AND FRANCESCA FOUND THEMSELVES WALKING IN THE GARDEN, even when they should be in bed and accompanied by a chaperone. It was quiet and Francesca and Aaron fell in love with that factor immediately.

This night was no different, the chirping of the crickets filling the ears of the two young adults. They walked in partial silence, besides the occasional conversation. The two didn't mind the silence, it wasn't uncomfortable. It was nice, really.

A few hours ago it was announced that the first girl to leave was Linette, as the news broke out the girls questioned it. It's that why Aaron wanted to see her last night? They for sure thought she was the new favorite, but that was far from the truth.

After a few moments of silence, Francesca spoke up. "Aaron?" Her voice was soft and light, floating along with the night air.

"Yes?" Aaron responded right away, his eyes glancing at Francesca. Every so often, their hands would brush against each other—it was torture. So, Aaron decided to just take the brunettes hand in his. Their fingers intertwined and fit perfectly, like a missing puzzle piece.

"Why was Linette kicked out?" Francesca asked, a blush tinging her cheeks from the fact their hands were intertwined.

"No reason, don't worry about it."

"Aaron."

"What?"

"Don't lie to me," Francesca scolded the prince, her tone firm. It was funny, really. Someone who was so silent and shy around people, so kind and sweet, being so firm and demanding. It wasn't like Francesca but still, Aaron liked the color on her.

"Fine, I kicked her out because she was being rude to you," Aaron replied, his voice holding nothing but the truth. Francesca stopped a walking, searching his eyes. Had his eyes always been this beautiful?

"So? Why should that matter?" Francesca asked softly, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"No one is going to be rude to you and get away with it, sweetheart." He answered that so simply, as if Francesca was his whole world. Was she? She didn't know, and she'd be lying if she said she didn't want to know.

"But...why?"

"Oh, Francesca you underestimate how much you mean to me," Aaron chuckled, squeezing the girls hand. The two continued to walk, still in their silence. Thoughts racked through Francesca's brain, but nothing was coming up. Why was Aaron so nice? But it seemed that he was only really friendly with Francesca. It was weird, right? It had to be weird, because what else would it be?
