"Wake up everyone!" I heard someone calling from downstairs, "It's y'all's first day of school." I jumped up from my bed, and found a black backpack next to the door. It was a backpack that had a RA embroidered white on the front of it. I picked it up, and it was so heavy!

"What the heck is in here!" I screamed to myself. I put it on and was about to leave, when I saw a note on the door.

Don't forget that you have to change into your uniform, also comb your hair to look presentable. Your bag has everything you need, including snacks and supplies. Meet us downstairs when you're ready.

-Aunt Mara

I looked around the room. I didn't realize that there was a closet by the doorway when I explored my room yesterday. I saw a short sleeved, black dress that was about my knee length and there were also shorts that I guessed were for me to wear underneath. My outfit was already on a hanger. I put down the bag to try everything on.

I was glad. At least I wouldn't be uncomfortable since I had shorts under my dress. After I put the dress and shorts on, I realized I had to wear a black blazer with purple accents, and an RA logo on the place where my heart would probably be. I also sat down on a vanity, which was near my window, to comb my hair.

When I thought I looked presentable enough, I opened my bedroom door and went downstairs.

I passed by the kitchen and noticed that Aunt Mara was wearing a beige apron, and cooking pancakes while humming. I walked over to the dining room, and I forgot to mention that the dining room was BIG. And the room didn't have much space. All because the room had a long, oak table, taking up the most room. Seriously, I thought that the table was meant for a feast.

My cousins were already sitting around the dining room table when I entered the room. Bella and Chance sat next to each other, and Amy sat across from Chance.

"Well you guys look more fabulous than usual." I complimented my cousins while leaning against the archway that divided the dining room and kitchen. Amy was wearing a red dress, paired a black blazer, and Bella was wearing a light green, pleated skirt. They both had matching butterfly hairpins for them, each in their favorite colors. Chance matched his sisters' elegance by wearing a light blue, collared, button up shirt. His golden blonde hair was even gelled.

"You're finally up! Oh- uh, thanks!" Bella acknowledged me with enthusiasm, but later realized I had complimented her. Bella reached into a hidden pocket of her lime colored skirt and held her fist out in front of me. "We asked Ms. Mara to buy this one for us and you, hope you like it!" She unclenched her fist, and held out a purple butterfly hair clip. "Ms. Mara went to the market this morning so she could get pancake mix. We asked her to get us three matching clips with our favorite colors." I smiled so wide.

Bella didn't have to do that, I was merely their cousin, yet they did. Simply to be nice. It warmed my heart.

"Thank you so much!" I thanked them by doing a quick and slight bow, a tradition most people did in ancient times. I moved to sit down next to Amy, who was reading over a book about medicine and ignoring Bella. Amy looked up from her book and nodded to me.

"Let me put it on for you," Amy said once I nestled into the chair beside her. Amy put down her book, and clipped the pin on my hair's left side.

Aunt Mara put pancakes on each of our plates and sat down. "How was everyone's sleep?" We all responded with "good." And I wasn't lying when I said it was a good night for me. Because for once, I had no nightmares about paying for food or getting arrested.
