Laura's POV

I was late for work my boss was going to kill me. I walked faster and rushed through the door.

"You're late." Cindy the manger said dully.

"Sorry I had to stay after school." I lie.

"Don't let it happen again." Was her response. "You have a costumer." She says walking into the backroom. I walk up to the counter while tying my apron.

"Can I get you anything...." I trail off when I see who is standing in front of me.

"Ross.. what are you doing here?" I manage to stammer out.

"I came to see you." He says sweetly. "That sounded creepy didn't?" He asks, I shake my head. "Okay well then remember what you said last night about being scared that whoever killed your parents would come after you?" He whispers. I nod my head. "I talked to my parents and they said they want to come live with us, they feel responsible for you now."

"What!?" I shout a little too loudly.

"You don't want to?" He asks looking disappointed. Of course I did I just felt bad for intruding on their family.

"No I would love to put I don't want to put you guys out." I reassure Ross.

"No they want you to come you will hurt their feelings if you say no." He says with a laugh.

"Okay well then I would love to." I say giving him a smile.

"Great I'll go home and tell everyone the great news, what time does your shift end?" He says all in one breath.

"5" I say with a laugh

"Okay I'll pick you up after your shift is over and we will go get all your stuff." He suggests.

"Okay sounds good I'll see you later?" It came out as a question.

"Yeah." He answers and walks out I watch him go. Did that really just happen? I have a new family maybe I will feel safe again. The rest of the day I have a huge smile plastered an my face I haven't been this happy in a while and it felt good.

"That will be 9.50." I say handing a costumer their coffee I take their money and tell them to have a nice day. I make sure there is no one around and lean my chin on my hand staring at the clock. It needed to be the end of my shift already. I know that staring at the clock won't make time go faster.

"WHY WON'T YOU MOVE!!!" I scream at the clock. The few people that were in the cafe turned and gave me weird looks. I hear someone snicker from the counter I look over and see Rydel leaning up against the counter laugh at my frustration with the clock.

"Hey.." I say awkwardly and walk over to Rydel.

"Why were you screaming at the clock?" She giggles as she asks me.

"I just want my shift to be over." I sigh.

"Mhhhmm and this wouldn't have to do with the fact that you are... I don't know moving?" She drags out her questions.

"Okay maybe a little." I cheer. "What are you doing here?" I ask. She opens her mouth to answer but is interrupted by Cindy walking in from the back room.

"You must be the new girl, Rydel is it?" Cindy asks looking at her clip board the verify Rydel's name.

"That's me!" Rydel answers cheerfully.

"Okay this is Laura she will be training you, have fun." Cindy says in her normal monotone voice. As soon as Cindy is gone I turn to Rydel.

"What does she mean new girl?" I ask giving Rydel a confused look.

"I Applied for a job because I need some money." She says walking around the back of the counter and grabbing herself an apron.

"Okay let's start with the coffee maker." I say showing Rydel to the coffee maker and explain to her how to use it. After that I show her how to use all the other overly complicated machines. I was just finishing up showing Rydel how to use the last machine when the bell signaling that a costumer had entered the cafe.

"Oh, your first costumer." I squeal as I turn to Rydel she jumps up and down then rushes over to the counter to take the costumers order. I follow her to watch how she does.

"Aw, it's just you." She exclaims sadly when she discovers that the costumer was only Ross.

"What, not happy to see me?" Ross teases. Rydel rolls her eyes at him.

"Ready to go?" He asks looking over Rydel's shoulder at me, I nod.

"Are you going to be okay by yourself?" I ask Rydel as I take off my apron and grab my bag.

"Yup!" She response confidently. I walk around the counter and meet Ross he smiles at me.

"See you at home." Rydel calls as we walk out of the cafe. We get into Ross's car and head for my apartment. When we arrive we head for the elevator and push the up arrow. We get into my apartment and I grab a the suitcases that I brought my stuff in when I moved here. I took out some boxes and put them on the table.

"You can pack up pictures and anything that's not clothes or furniture because that came with the apartment." I order Ross. "Get it?"

"Got it." Ross replies

"Good." I answer turning to my dresser and start to pull out my clothes and stuff them into my suitcase. I finish packing all my clothes and my bathroom stuff. Then I head into the living room to see how Ross is doing. He already finished two boxes.

"Wow, you're fast." I compliment he flashes me a smile.

"Thanks," he nods his head at me "I'm going to start taking your stuff down to the car." Ross suggests. I nod in agreement and continue to pack. While I was packing I hear a loud thud come from the hall I walk towards the open door and peak around the corner, what I see makes me want to laugh. I see my neighbor Mrs. Lucaseeo whacking Ross with her cane while he is on the floor doing the armadillo and screaming. I should probably stop this, but first, I take out my phone and take a picture of this to show everyone later and for my own amusement, then I run over and stand in front of Ross, I hold out my hand to get her to stop.

"This thief was robbing your apartment Laura!" She yells moving towards Ross again.

"No! No, Mrs. Lucaseeo he is helping me pack I'm moving out of the building." I explain calmly. I turn around and extend my hand to Ross, who gladly takes it, I help him to his feet.

"Oh, sorry dear." She says sheepishly. "Laura I'm going to miss you so much." Mrs. Lucaseeo exclaims turning her attention to me and wraps me in a strong hug. For an  80 year old women she is pretty strong. I give her a smile and wave goodbye as Ross and I head back into my apartment to get the rest of my stuff.

"Is this them?" Ross asks out of nowhere he holds out a picture of my parents and I together. I nod slowly and smile at the happy memory. Ross opens his mouth like he wants to say something else but shuts it quickly deciding not to. "Ready to go?" Ross asks putting the picture down in the last box, then picking up the box and looking at me expectantly.

"All set." I sigh. I open the door and let Ross go out before me. I look back at my now plain and empty apartment.

"Going to miss this place?" Ross pops his head up from behind the door frame.

"Not at all." I retort shaking my head Ross chuckles and we leave this place for good it was a bitter-sweet moment I hated this place but it was the first place I had on my own when I finally realized I would be okay without my parents. Even if I didn't want to.
