The next day at school, Abro couldn't stop thinking about his evening with Annie. Her words echoed in his mind: "You really are different from other people." He kept wondering who those "other people" were and what she meant by it. The thought of it made his heart race and his mind whirl. Was she comparing him to past friends? Old flames? The uncertainty gnawed at him, fueling both his hope and insecurity.
In between classes, Abro scanned the hallways for Annie, his eyes darting from face to face, searching for her familiar figure. The bustling sounds of students chatting and lockers slamming filled the air, but his focus remained on finding her. He finally spotted her near her locker, engrossed in a conversation with a couple of her classmates.
Annie's laughter rang out, light and genuine, and Abro felt a pang of jealousy mixed with admiration. He admired how easily she seemed to connect with others, her confidence and warmth drawing people to her. Taking a deep breath, he decided to wait until she was alone before approaching her. He didn't want to interrupt her conversation, but more than that, he needed a moment to steady his nerves.
As he leaned against a nearby wall, pretending to be interested in his phone, his mind raced. He thought about the previous night—the way Annie had looked at him, her words of reassurance. Yet, beneath those comforting memories, the doubt still lingered. He wondered if he could ever truly be the person she saw him as.
Minutes felt like hours as he watched Annie interact with her friends. He noticed how her smile seemed to light up the hallway, how her eyes sparkled when she laughed. Each detail only intensified his feelings, a mix of deep affection and the nagging fear that he wasn't enough.
