"Family," they said. The word was supposed to mean everything. It didn't matter whether the blood in your veins matched. Family was a promise, a bond that tethered you to others, unshaken by anything — love, loyalty, trust. It was supposed to be forever.
Family her ass.
Lopera had been sent on a mission to track down a woman named Dores, someone the army or in this case, Zeno, considered critical to their goals. The details didn't matter anymore. What mattered was that everything went to hell, and it happened because of... Whatever this preacher was. Then this was her companion, who she considered a sister. The one who'd shared her bunk, her food, her secrets. No blood tied them, but Moldir had been as much her sister as anyone could ever claim to be.
It is Molly but... Whatever...
The relationship between them is like nothing else. It never gets old, no matter how many times they go through the motions. Sometimes, it's a bit messy, but the unconditional love between them remains unchanged. They have each other's back, whether they're short on ammo or need backup, both sides always there to provide it. When they're out of MREs, the source of the supplies is endless, ensuring that they'll never go hungry for too long.

And yet, Moldir had betrayed her. Sold her out, like it was nothing.
It crushed Lopera's chest, her heart, suffocating her. She leaned back against the cold wall of her quarters, her legs too weak to hold her up. Her head tilted upward, eyes boring into the cracked ceiling like the answer to why might be hidden somewhere up there.
She is in a terrible state of affairs. One rat after another, she came to this family hoping to find the love she was lacking, but instead, all she got was a beating and betrayal, everyone she comes to trust turns out to be a snake in the grass. Right now all she feeling is hurt and hopeless. Who wouldn't be, given her experiences?
Her father's voice came back to her,
"I would never betray this army."
Lies... It had always been lies....
The lies... They're everywhere, and they're completely outrageous. You can't even take a step in this world without stumbling upon some half-truth or fib. Everywhere you look, people are spouting lies like everyone has taken a course in deception, no person get a little bit of honesty around here anymore.
