4. first day

Maybe this was so bad.

One shower and night in his dorm later, the school week arrived.

The first day of class Izuku felt sick to his stomach. He was so incredibly nervous.

He woke up that morning and splashed cold water in his face from the sink in his room, trying to wash away the morning fatigue with something other than pure nerves, but it didn't work much.

He made it to class early and found himself in another conversation. He'd been so strangely social lately! It felt weird to have people like you just to like you and talk to you because they actually want to. Honestly, it was thrilling. He never thought of himself as a extrovert, but being outgoing is way more fun when everyone is inherently kind to you.

Now he was in his seat talking to a tall, tart boy named Tenya Iida. His older brother was Ingenium (another hero Izuku admired) and his entire family's quirk had to do with engines in their legs that made them incredibly fast. Turned around facing him from the seat in front of his was a girl named Ochako Ururaka. Her family worked in construction and had encouraged her to become a hero, despite how helpful her power would have been in the field. Her quirk was called float, and she loved to see people smile. Izuku tried to smile as often as he could for her.

He found smiling was a lot easier at UA. Smiling was a lot easier when people liked you! He felt happy. Really happy (despite the nerves).

Really happy until the one and only Katsuki Bakugo showed up glaring at him.

Now Izuku found it hard to even speak. He let Iida and Ochako continue their chat and lightly fell out of the conversation as Katsuki sat down in the desk behind him. Izuku took a deep deep breath. In and out. Bakugo was certainly planning some kind of ridicule on him by sitting behind him:

Spitballs to the back of his head maybe. Kicking the back of his seat? Whispered insults? (Who was he kidding, Katsuki wasn't capable of whispering, that wasn't it.) Anything to distract him from the lecture and make him as miserable as possible.

A few minutes before class was set to begin, Todoroki came into class and sat down next to Izuku quietly. Shinso sat in front of him next to Ochaco and they all sat in a circle talking. Bakugo wasn't brave enough to make a move while other people were paying attention to his source of ridicule. Now that he didn't have his own group of bullies, he wasn't brave enough to hurt Izuku in the broad view of all his new friends.

Soon enough class began. Shinso and Izuku were asked to come to the front and introduce themselves.

Shinso spoke first.

"Hi, my name is Hitoshi Shinso." He said boredly, "most of you know me from the sports festival. My quirk is Mind Control. If I ask a question or say something and the person I want to control responds out loud, I have control over their actions. I can't control people's thoughts and I don't use my quirk outside of battle and training." Shinso finished with a slight bow, "thank you for welcoming me."

After he finished, all eyes were on Izuku.

He felt nervous. He felt Kacchan glaring at him.

"H-hi. My name is Izuku Midoriya." He said, smiling awkwardly, "some of you have met me already, but for those of you who I haven't met, it's very nice to meet you! I am quirkless."

You could have heard a pin drop.

"I'm very thankful for this opportunity." He said nervously, trying to break the silence. He bowed, slightly deeper than Shinso, "thank you for welcoming me. I'll do my best!"
