------Shouta Aizawa had a track record.
In the ten years he'd been working at UA, he hadn't been late to class once.
Until today.
Today he and the rest of the UA faculty had been called into an emergency meeting about increased villain activity and safety procedures.
Made sense. His students had already been personally affected. Midoriya's mom. He sighed to himself.
The teachers were instructed to keep the rise in danger from the students, not to let them panic, just to subtly encourage them to stay on campus. Plan more on campus activities, in dorm bonding time, movie nights, etc. Anything to lessen trips outside their fortified walls. It all sounded like over exhaustion and too much work for Aizawa, but he complied anyways and went back to his group of troublesome students.
He walked into his classroom five minutes late and scanned the room, examining and analyzing each of his students.
Denki had clearly stayed up late. He was audibly snoring, asleep with his head in his arms on his desk.
Todoroki was leaned over, quietly observing Midoriya do his homework.
Izuku, sitting next to him, was hurriedly scribbling answers down on a worksheet. He looked exhausted as Bakugo made an effort to kick his chair from behind him. Izuku had too much work to finish, he ignored it and kept working.
Iida was leaning over slightly, similar to Todoroki, pointing at his paper, making sure he didn't make any sloppy mistakes as he rushed to finish.
Shinso glanced back at them every once in a while, his face coming back concerned. He looked like he had a lot on his mind. Like he couldn't stop thinking.
Aizawa sighed, and clapped to get everyone's attention, "sorry for being late, we had a faculty meeting that ran overtime. Please be ready for class." He said.
Kirishima punched Denki to wake him up.
Aizawa rolled his eyes and began to teach.
------
Izuku managed to finish his homework just as Mr. Aizawa walked in the room. Bakugo stopped kicking his chair once there was an authority figure who would stand up for the boy.
However, everything was dull. He wasn't interested in the subject, he wasn't interested in taking notes, everything was gray. The words of the lecture flew in one ear and right out the other. All he could think about was his mother.
His mother in a hospital, connected to tubes and wires, running her body for her all because he wasn't good enough.
He was thinking about how Bakugo's ridicule was becoming unignorable, and that he had deep cuts on his arms that weren't closing very easily. Not as easily as they should. The bandages beneath were tinged in pink from the blood underneath when he woke up this morning.
He changed them, put on a compression sleeve to hide his self harm under the guise of a muscle strain or something, and went to school despite his sour, unmotivated mood.
He felt dull. Dull and exhausted.
He managed to get through the school day without much incident. People noticed that he was off, but didn't say anything.
Not until he got to training with All Might. Izuku felt like shit before he went to All Might, but what he felt after was a hell of a lot worse.
