As my consciousness was fading, he loosened his grip around my neck.
"Get out."
"Don't you ever enter my room. Go before I actually kill you," he growled in anger.
My whole body started trembling. Somehow, I found the strength to walk out of the room, then run outside.
I bolted down the dark hallway, which looked haunted in the dim light. I just wanted to escape, to get far away from this place. Ever since I arrived at this house, everything felt wrong.
I ran and ran.
Trying to outrun my past.
my nightmares.
my anxiety.
I don't know how far I ran before I came to my senses. Breathless.
my heart pounding.
I collapsed on the ground, my body slick with sweat.
The ground was muddy; I was in a forest, dark and gloomy. I had no idea where I was.
Exhausted, I leaned against a tree trunk and closed my eyes.
.......................
I heard someone crying.
It was him.
He was crying.
A man dressed in black stood next to him, a sword in his hand.
I screamed, telling him to move, to get away from him.
But he couldn't hear me.
The man raised his sword and pierced it right into his heart.
🥀
I woke up, breathing heavily and sweating. That was a weird dream. I hadn't dreamed about that man since the accident.
I got off my bed and went to stand next to the mirror. Red finger marks ringed my neck.
So it wasn't a dream.
It was reality.
A harsh reality.
But how did I get back to my room?
"Emelia, you're awake! Let's go, or else we'll be late for work," Jade called from the washroom.
She exited the bathroom, and our eyes met in the mirror. Her gaze moved to my neck before I could hide it.
She ran to me.
"Oh my god, what happened? Are you okay? Who did this to you?" she asked worriedly.
She made me sit on the bed and ran to get ointment for the redness. She applied it gently around my neck and asked me again, but I couldn't say anything.
"Was it the prince?" she asked quietly.
My change in expression confirmed her suspicion.
"I'm sorry, it's all because of me. Because of me, you have to suffer all of this," she started crying.
I didn't know what to say. I'm not good at comforting someone.
When I can't control my own emotions, how could I help others?
I simply wrapped my arms around her and hugged her. It was enough for her to understand. I knew it.
In this world, only she gets or understands me.
So I don't mind if I get in trouble because of her.She is worth it.
After a few moments, we pulled away.
She looked me in the eyes and said, "I will talk to Miss Ariana, to let me be that monster's personal maid."
"Don't be stupid, Jade."
"But-" before Jade could finish,
I said,
"I'm fine, Jade. It's my fault. I was warned how he didn't like someone in his room, but I still went. I just need to be more careful, so don't worry."
"Fine, but please be careful," Jade said, tears in her eyes.
I wanted to ask her how I got back to my room. Did I come by myself, or did someone else bring me here? But I didn't want to worry Jade anymore,
so I left it unasked.
