"Why is he here?" I demanded, my voice trembling not from fear but from fury. The man who killed Jade stood before me.
"Get out of here," Levi shouted, his voice dripping with anger.
"You have something that belongs to me," the prince said, his gaze shifting to me. "Give her back, and I will leave."
"Go back to your realm," Levi retorted.
"She's mine," Prince growled.
His toy. It made me angry.
"I will stay here with him, you monster," I spat, seething with anger.
"Really? Even if you know that he's about to sacrifice your soul to save your brother?" the man taunted.
I fell silent.
"Even if I tell you he tricked you with illusions to bring you here?"
What does he mean?
Was Levi really planning to sacrifice me? Had this all been a ploy to make me volunteer myself?
I didn't need him to confirm it. Deep down, I knew it was true.
I couldn't trust him. That's what I kept telling myself. But at some point, I had started to believe in him.
It hurt.
Both of them stood there, embodiments of evil. Each worse than the other.
I stood there, blank and devoid of any plan. Should I run? But I wasn't fast enough; they would catch me in no time.
Should I just sacrifice myself? Or go with the murderer?
"Emelia, I can explain everything," Levi pleaded. "Please, trust me. One last time"
Trust him?
Suddenly, Levi vanished into the darkness. In a flash, he was in front of Prince, a knife in hand. He lunged, but Prince moved too quickly for my human eyes to follow. In an instant, Prince was behind me.
"Human, let's go," he commanded.
Before I could flee, he grabbed my hand. As lightning enveloped us, I heard Levi's voice. "Emelia, trust me and wait for me, please," he pleaded as his voice faded.
When the lightning subsided, I found myself alone in my room at the House of Illusions. Prince was nowhere to be seen.
I felt betrayed.
I felt hurt.
Once again, Prince had taken away the last shred of hope I had.
