I PULLED BACK FROM THE HUG. hazel wiped the tears from her eyes with the back of her hand.
even worse than the fact that leo and jason upset me was that they made hazel cry. i couldn't believe they would be so selfish. they didn't think about her feelings or mine at all in anything they said.
leo might as well of took a rusty dull dagger and plunged it into my chest. that probably would have hurt less.
i brushed a curl of hair from hazel's face. "don't listen to them, they're stupid. they've never met nico and they think they have a place to make that kind of decision. even if nobody else wants to, i'm going to look for nico. we'll find him, hazel."
hazel sniffled and gave me a wet smile. "really? you would do that?"
i nodded surely. "one hundred percent. you and nico are basically my siblings, we're in this together. we're going to find nico. it'll be okay."
"i just can't believe jason and leo would say those things," hazel said. "it's like they don't care about how we feel. that's our brother."
i rubbed her arm. "i know. i swear, if they don't apologize, i'm going to reign all of hades on them. i don't know if you can tell, but i am so mad right now."
i pointed to my face which i was 99% sure was bright red in frustration. hazel laughed and pushed her hair out of her face. "oh, yeah. i can tell."
hazel and i kept rambling about how upset we were to each other.
annabeth came into the cabin eventually and began telling hazel and i stories of percy's best 'seaweed brain' moments. it wasn't hard to believe that percy took four years to notice that annabeth had a crush on him, especially with the way they act together now. he really was dense.
also the fact that percy made water shoot out of the bathroom fixtures at clarisse made me understand why clarisse hated me so much because i would be traumatized of children with water powers if that happened to me too.
annabeth's stories of percy's dumbest and funniest moments did distract me from how upset i was, but at the same time they also reminded me of my quest with leo, jason, and piper and then i'd wonder if leo and jason really did think what i did was shady and untrustworthy.
so ultimately, i didn't feel too much better.
annabeth was in the middle of telling hazel and i about how percy turned up to his own funeral when frank stumbled down the hall and burst into the cabin.
