Swinging her heavy black backpack over her right shoulder, Estelle Jiang turned away from the reception desk of Cantos Clinic, where she was currently doing her med-student training. Medicine, she thought to herself with a grim expression, I hate doing medicine. Why did I do this to myself?

But of course, she didn't do this to herself, her Mum did. Classical strict tiger Mum. Medicine or law, she had been telling her since fifth grade, medicine or law or you can be disowned. And Estelle was pretty sure that she wasn't kidding about the disowning part.

"See you tomorrow, Elle!" The middle-aged woman who sat at the reception desk called out to her, using the nickname that only her friends were allowed to use and causing Estelle to wince. "Dr. Nikel told me that you've done well today. She says that you've been one of her favourite interns she's ever had!"

Immediately plastering the fake bright smile she knew how to make appear so well, Estelle turned back to face the kind receptionist. "It's been a pleasure studying under her," She replied easily, "I'll make sure to thank her tomorrow."

"Travel safely!" The receptionist said as Estelle opened the door.

"Thanks, I will!" Estelle closed the glass door to the clinic softly behind her, sighing as her shoulders drooped as she listened to the soft tinkling of the door chimes inside the clinic. The cold winter air of New York blew unforgivingly and caused her hair, which she had let out of the tight medical bun earlier, to whip around her face. The thin blue collared shirt and white doctor's coat that was her uniform was not helping much, either.

As Estelle turned the corner of the street that her clinic resided on, she gazed longingly into the windows of Hwang's Music Shop, a small corner shop that sold musical instruments from all across the world owned by a small Korean family that had moved to New York around the same time that Estelle's family had. She had visited the shop a lot when she was younger, being close friends with the Korean family's son, Felix, but as she got older she found herself entering the familiar music shop less and less until she didn't visit at all. She had always loved the variety of guitars that lined the walls, the grand piano in the backroom that Felix's mum had allowed her to play.

She put one gloved hand over the cold window of the dark shop and sighed, watching as a puff of white air escaped her mouth. If she could do anything, she would pick up music again - be free from the torture of med-school that her parents had forced her to endure.

A sudden zap sounded from the other side of the street, and Estelle jumped, retracting her hand sharply from the glass of the window as she turned around, not knowing what to expect to see.

The last thing she expected, however, was an old midnight blue police box standing in the middle of the street. That had certainly not been there a couple of seconds before... but that was impossible. How could this police box, which, she might add, had been decommissioned in London for over forty years, be doing in the middle of the street, in the middle of the night, in New York?

Slowly, grabbing a stun gun out of the side pocket of her backpack (she knew it would come in handy one day), Estelle approached the police box. She knew she should call the police and run for her life, but her curiosity edged her forwards. Was this one of those horrible TV pranks? Perhaps a hallucination? Maybe this whole day had been a dream.

Suddenly, the door to the police box swung open and Estelle took a huge step back, wide eyed. So not only was the police box teleporting, but it was also automatic! However, two figures stepped out of the police box. The first was a beautiful young woman, with short straight blonde hair and a wide smile on her face as she looked around. After her was a taller, lanky man with semi-spiky brown hair and a face she could only describe as... foxy. The foxy man was dressed in a brown suit, while the girl was dressed more casually, in a light red shirt and jeans.
