The car ride was quiet for the most part, until my curiosity got the better of me.
"If you're blind how are you driving?" I practically spat the question. "Is this even safe? How about I drive the damn thing?"
Yuzuki chuckled softly.
"Oh I see just fine." He murmured.
"So you're not blind?" Shoto asked from beside me, brows pulled together in question.
"Oh I am blind. I cannot see as you see,"
"Then what is it? Can you see or can you not see?!" I didn't mean to raise my voice, but this guy brought out the worst in me. And he damn well knew it too because he let out that stupid soft laugh again. He knew he was riling me up.
"It's part of his quirk." Idina answered from the front seat. I didn't understand how that worked but I had realised being in a confined space like this in a stupid suit after that stupid question from Shoto that I was on edge. I needed to cool it.
"So what's the deal?" I grumbled as I fidgeted with the too tight seat belt that was partially strangling me.
"There are a lot of influential people where we're going. They might know things." Idina wasn't being particularly forthcoming with information and it was frustrating me.
"What kind of people and what sort of information?' I pressed.
She let out an exasperated sigh as if I was an annoying toddler in the back seat that wouldn't shut up. Hmph. Little did she know I could be a lot more annoying than a toddler if I wanted to be.
"People of significance in the Underworld. They run cartels, bring in goods... all sorts. I need to know if they're aware of Kaio Hitashi's involvement with the quirk nullification and if they know who that damned kid is."
"And how do you know these people? Why are you able to walk in so effortlessly among them?" I asked, more out of curiosity than anything.
"Because we're considered allies. The group of people here tonight... they run in the same circles as the Yakuza. Sure we're all competitors to a degree, but even the underworld needs allies. There are certain rules to play by... certain turf to stick to. Chisaki can't make it tonight he's busy plotting away so I'm standing in."
I blinked. The underworld had RULES? That was almost laughable.
Shoto bristled beside me. "If these people run such illegal activity, why have you not arrested them?" His question had more bite than I expected. Shoto was having a hard time adjusting to this new Idina. I could sense his distrust and I wondered if he's hurting seeing her like this.
"I shut down the drugs, I redivert the weapons to the heroes, I intercept the human trafficking rings and take them down. These stories don't see the light of day because if the people found out just how much evil lurked in their cities there'd be wide spread panic. I do my job Shoto. You shouldn't question that." There was a defensiveness to her that I hadn't expected.
"If that's true then why are the people we're about to see still walking the streets? You can't be doing your job all too well." Shoto snapped back. I could see Yuzuki's shoulders stiffen. There was a fire in Shoto's mismatched eyes, and I knew that he was finally about to blow up at Idina. All his rage, all his hurt was about to come out.
"These people are Yakuza allies. Do you think we'd align ourselves with those who traffic people? Who create drugs that ruin lives? Because we don't."
"We? You realise you're not actually the Yakuza right?" Shoto scoffed. "And what about Chisaki? He was a monster and would have continued to be one if the heroes hadn't beaten him."
