Chapter 07

“You’re finally taking the test. Do you want us to go with you?” Kim asked Seth as we waited for classes to start.

“That’ll be awesome.” He smiled back to us.

“I can’t go with you guys. I promise Pete-” I started but Kim cut me off.

“Pete. You’re always with that guy now. You’re acting just like when you were with Noah. Let’s go Seth.” She shouted exasperated and left before I could say anything. I was shocked; I didn’t know she felt that way. Did I spend too much time with Pete? But I promised to help him study; there was nothing wrong with that, still I felt like a terrible friend.

“Hey, sexy. Ready to go?” Pete whispered in my ear. I simply nodded. Kim was overreacting. Pete kept talking, but I couldn’t focus on anything he was saying. Why did Kim have to be like this? Who was I kidding? She was right. When Noah and I were dating I was always with him and didn’t spend much time with my friends. “Are you ok?” Pete asked concerned.

“Not really. It’s Kim, she was really upset today.” I said looking towards the front door of the school building, Kim and Seth longer gone; I didn’t want to look at Pete.

“I have the feeling it was because of me.” He said sounding sorry.

“No, it was my fault.” I gave him a little smile to make him feel better.

“You know I tried to be nice to her, but she…” He couldn’t even finish the sentence.

“I know what you mean, but she’s my best friend. I love her; she has always been there when I need her.”

“Hey, look at me.” Pete said taking my face into his hands. I looked up to meet his beautiful hazel eyes. “Everything is going to be fine.” I nodded; I really needed to believe everything was going to be fine. It wasn’t that bad either. I smiled to him again. Satisfied with my smile, he let go of my face and we headed towards his car. I looked at him again, he was really nice. But I wasn’t sure if I liked him, I still had feelings for Noah. And let’s face it, I didn’t really know Pete that well, I didn’t think we had anything in common. Maybe we could at least be good friends.

“We’re finally here. Let the torture begins.” He joked.

“I promise, you’ll have fun learning.” I said smiling, but once the words left my mouth I felt like a total nerd. He started laughing and I couldn’t fight the blush that came to my cheeks.

“You’re so cute.” He gave me an amused smile.

“Let’s see if you think I’m cute, when we start with Physics.” I said grinning evilly, but I was still embarrassed. We spend the whole afternoon and part of the night studying, Pete and Owen were so different. It was easier to work with Pete; I guess it was because he didn’t hate me. And he really wanted to go back to the baseball team. When we finished he drove me home.

“Thanks for helping me today, you were right after all.” He said with his signature smirk. “It was fun.”

“I’m always right.” I said joking.

“You really are an interesting person.” He said smiling. Ah, that killer smile. Maybe I did like him.

“Thanks.” I smiled awkwardly, and climbed out of the car. “See you at school.” I escaped before anything else could happen. I wasn’t ready, even though I wanted to be. I wanted to kiss him.

“See you and good luck with your friend.” He said nicely. I’d need it. I turned around and started to walk towards the front door of my house when I noticed Seth’s car in my driveway. I was confused, but continued anyway.
