Chapter 08
After a few days everyone forgot the whole incident and moved on to something else. It was safe to walk in the halls again without people glaring at me. I was on my way towards my locker when I noticed Pete leaning against it, which was weird since he stopped doing that long time ago.
“Hey Pete.” I said smiling. He didn’t say anything; instead he gave me a weak smile. “Is everything alright?” I asked after a few seconds of awkward silence.
He hesitated before answering. “Yeah.” He said simply. I didn’t want to push any further, he would tell me when he needed to. “Do you mind if I walk you to your next class?” I shook my head; I wonder what was bothering him. The walk to the Science wing was really awkward, no comfortable silence at all, but I couldn’t think of anything to talk to make this less weird. “Jo, do you like Owen?” He asked suddenly. Where did that come from?
“What?” I asked confused.
“Do you like-”
I cut him off. “I heard very clearly the first time. Why are you asking me that?”
“Is that a yes?” His expression was hard to read.
“No, I don’t like him and we never had sex or anything. I thought that was clear.” I replied quickly.
“I know, but I just wanted to be sure.” He smiled again and walked away before I could ask anything else. I sighed deeply.
“Boys are so weird.” I said to no one in particular.
“They are; especially when they like you.” A voice took me by surprise. Thank god it was Sammy.
“Hey, what’s up… wait, what do you mean?” I asked confused.
“Do I really need to explain that to you?” She said smirking. I nodded. “It’s obvious Pete likes you.” She said smirking.
“No, he doesn’t.” I smiled nervously. He didn’t even tease me anymore. I was getting used to it, but I got we were only friends, it was not that I liked him either, sure he was nice, funny and sexy as hell but I still couldn’t forget Noah.
“You’re so blind.” She let out a small laugh.
“We’re just friends.” I repeated.
“Really? What about Owen? He’s really cute.” She asked smirking.
“Yeah.” I said, but my voice came out more like a soft moan, I couldn’t stop myself from thinking about that damn kiss. It didn’t mean anything, but I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it. Sammy just laughed and we kept walking to our class.
During class I couldn’t focus on the lesson, so I stopped trying. Instead I kept thinking, maybe it was the perfect opportunity to forget about Noah and had a little fun; there was nothing wrong with that. I was single I needed to enjoy life a little more and stop obsessing about my exboyfriend. But did I really want to forget Noah? I still hoped we could end up together. We made so many plans together and now they were all gone. He definitely forgot me.
“Ms. Foster, are you still with us?” The teacher snapped me out of my thoughts. Everyone started laughing.
“Sorry.” I mumbled.
At lunch I didn’t even bother to buy any food, this day couldn’t get worst and where were my friends? Sitting alone in our table wasn’t really funny, but I was too lazy to look for them.
“Bad day?” I looked up to see Owen standing infront of me.
“What do you think?” I said nonchalantly. “What do you want? Pete is not here as you can see.” I said irritated.
