Chapter 03
That was close, but I was stuck with Owen until he’d finally get better grades. It sucked; well it was me or Kim. I finished my long warm shower and entered my room again; I’d need all my strength tonight. I didn’t want to go to school today; it was getting harder to be there especially after what Noah said in the gym. I got dressed quickly and brushed my hair before walking out of my bedroom.
“Good morning sweetie.” My parents said smiling. They’re always in a good mood; I wish I could be like them, happy all the time. At least I used to be.
“Good morning.” I murmured and took a seat infront of dad and started eating my breakfast.
“Is everything alright?” Dad asked concerned.
“Yes, it’s just I’m a little tired and I have to tutor Owen tonight.” I informed them.
“You didn’t tell us anything about that. Do you need me to pick you up after that?” Mom asked.
I shook my head. “I don’t think it’s necessary, but I’ll call you if I need a ride. I should go before Kim leaves without me. See you later.” I gave them a quick peck on the cheek before leaving the house.
“Hey Jo! You look terrible this morning.” Kim joked; even she was in a good mood this morning.
“Thanks, you always know how to make me feel better.” I said sarcastically.
“You know I was joking. I like your hair though, it’s been a while since the last time you comb it.” She said smiling. I ended up smiling too.
“Shut up. Let’s go before it’s too late.”
“Don’t worry; we’ll be there in five.” She said grinning.
“I should just take the bus.” I said with a worried expression. She gave me a disapproving look and forced me to get in the car.
“So, today is the first class with Owen.” She said after a few minutes of silence.
“I’m not sure if I can do this; at least his mother is going to be there.”
“I’m so sorry.” Kim said with sadness in her voice.
“Hey, stop worrying. I can handle this.” I tried to comfort her. “Changing the topic, with this tutoring thing I didn’t get the chance to tell you what Noah said to me after the soccer game.”
“What did he say?” She asked curious.
“Well, he was acting really weird; he even told me that we lost the game because I was flirting with Pete.”
“He was jealous?”
“That’s what I thought and I told him he had no right to be jealous since he was the one who broke up with me, but then he told me he didn’t like me anymore and that I was making things in my head. He was really mean.” I felt sad again.
“I don’t know what to say.”
“I felt so humiliated. Did he really think it was easy for me when we broke up?”
“I think you should stay away from him for a while, I told you it was a bad idea to tell him you could be friends.” Kim was right. I need to stay away from him, them.
When we arrived it was still early, Seth wasn’t there; Kim parked the car near the front door, but didn’t say anything. We made our way to our lockers in silence. I didn’t feel like talking either, my mind was blank and at the same time thinking about Noah.
“Hey!” Seth shouted happily as we approached our lockers.
“Why are you so happy this morning?” I asked curious.
