I woke up with the worst hangover. When would I learn drinking was not for me? Believe it or not Kim had the brilliant idea to bring a bottle of whisky to our trip, how she managed to sneak that out of her mother’s bar cabinet was a mystery, but everyone was really happy she did it. I went to sleep earlier than everyone else, because after a few drinks everything around me started spinning and it was still spinning when I woke. The tent was warm, Sammy’s legs were over mine and she was snoring softly, Kim wasn’t there. I remembered Sammy getting into the tent, but not Kim. I was afraid if I moved I would throw up inside the tent, then Sammy curled up in a ball and I felt a current of cold air touched my skin and it eased my stomach ache just a bit. I saw a head peaking inside the tent.

“Are you guys decent?” Pete whispered. His eyes closed.

“No.” I said and he immediately opened his eyes excited. “Pervert.” He faked a disappointed look, but a big smile appeared on his face. “What do you want? It’s too early.”

“You need to see something.” He motioned for me to go outside the tent with him. I took my time. “Hurry up.” He whispered.

“Calm down, I can’t find my shoes.”

“Here.” He said passing my shoes. “You won’t believe this.” I followed him to his car. At first I didn’t understand his excitement. I couldn’t see anything interesting. Then I saw them. Kim and Seth lying asleep on the bed of the truck, they looked absolutely cute, Kim was inside her sleeping bag and Seth had his arms around her as if trying to keep her warm. “They stayed up last night drinking while the rest of us went to sleep. I never thought I would find this.”

“They are really weird. It looks like every time we drink they end up in each other’s arms.” I said smiling.

“This has happened before?”

“Just once… that I know of. I don’t know what is holding them back. They clearly like each other.” I said thoughtfully.

“They probably don’t want to risk what they have. Once you are in a relationship everything could change. It’s scary.” Pete said without looking at me. He was right, but what was life without taking risks, especially when you loved someone. “Let’s give them some privacy.” I nodded and followed him back to the camp site and sat in front of the dead bonfire. “Hungry?”

“Not really. I feel terrible. I think I’m going to throw up and it will be ugly.” I chuckled.

“How much did you drink last night?” He asked caressing my back gently.

“Not much, but that was strong. Did you guys drink the whole thing?”

“I don’t know. I went to bed after you left. I was tired. Maybe you will feel better if you throw up.” I looked at him afraid. I shook my head. “It was just a suggestion.” He smiled at me and kept moving his hand up and down my back, it really helped me forget about my stomach and dizziness. I rested my head against his shoulder and closed my eyes. I didn’t remember falling asleep again, but when I opened my eyes his arm was around my shoulder and my head resting on his chest. It felt warm and soft; I didn’t want to stand up or wake him up either.
