Chapter 10

After what happened that night, I had no idea how I was going to look at him again, it was obvious we both wanted something to happen, but also it was obvious that it meant nothing. Actually I was happy it didn’t happen, it’d have been so awkward. Forget that, it was awkward. On Monday when I arrived at school, Owen was in the parking lot with Pete, and Seth decided it would be cool to hang out with them until the bell rang. Since when did they become buddies? I managed to escape from there and headed inside the school building, I wasn’t sure what I should do or say. It wasn’t easy for me to just went back to ignore him, but I certainly did a great job avoiding him almost all day. When the bell signaled the end of the day I walked to my locker and there he was, but he wasn’t alone. Something was wrong with the world, Kim was talking with Owen and she was laughing. Now I was curious, why was she talking to him? What did I miss this weekend? I took a deep breath and approached them, they were so immersed in their conversation that they didn’t even notice I was right there.

“Hey, I don’t want to interrupt, but you’re blocking my locker.” I said flatly.

“Jo, I was waiting for you. Where did you go during lunch? I’ve been looking for you all day.” Kim said smiling. I sighed and took a quick look at Owen, I could tell he was enjoying this situation and it just made me so uncomfortable.

“I was with Sammy.” I focused all my attention on the books inside my locker. What was wrong? There was a long pause when no one spoke. Talking about awkward. “So… are you ready to go?” I finally asked Kim breaking the silence.

“I’m sorry; I have a job interview in 30 minutes.”

“Oh.” That’s all I said and looked back at Owen, who was smiling widely now.

“I was going to tell you about it during lunch, but you disappeared.”

“Don’t worry Kim; I still have time to take the bus.” I hated the bus ride though; all those young kinds drove me crazy with all the yelling. Seth was supposed to take me back home since he was the one who drove me to school today, but he also had something to do.

“Actually, I’m driving you home. That’s why I’m here.” Owen said smirking. I looked at him confused and terrified, I couldn’t be alone with him, not now. I wasn’t ready to speak about what happened or almost happened.

“We know how much you hate to ride the bus, so Seth asked Owen to give you a ride home-”

“That’s not really necessary.” I cut her off.

“Don’t be silly. Besides, you’re my tutor.” Owen said trying to keep a straight face, but failing terribly. I tried to argue with them but it was impossible.

“I’m late. See you later.” Kim hugged me quickly and left in a blur.

“Good luck!” I shouted, still a little confused. Seriously, where did I go this weekend? First, Seth talking happily with Pete and Owen, then Kim and Owen and now she had a job interview.

“You look confused.” Owen said getting closer to me and I noticed his hand was on my waist. I tried to step away from him, but he just brought me closer to him. I looked around the hall, it was almost empty and then looked back at him. He really had the most amazing blue eyes I’ve seen. Focus Jo!

“Yeah, she never told me she was looking for a job.” I said looking away, but Kim was nowhere to be seen. “Wait. What do you think you’re doing?” I asked, noticing his arms around me. He ignored me and started to get closer. “There’re people around, you know.”

“So?” He asked like nothing. He didn’t care people watching him with me? That was unexpected. I looked at him confused, again. “Fine.” He said letting me go. “Let’s go.” He said seriously. That sounded more like him. He walked really fast; I almost had to run to catch his steps. We got into his car and he was on rude mode again. What was wrong with him? He was bipolar. He was smiling one minute and acting all pissed off the next.
