Chapter 09

I’ve never been a believer, but these past few days I’ve been praying for this day never came. It clearly didn’t work, because it still came too fast; I tried to make up any excuse to avoid our class today, but the Principal made sure I was coming tonight to her house; she said she was happy with the progress Owen has made and that we needed to keep working on it.

“What have I done to deserve this?” I complained once again after the volleyball practice. Everyone left and I was all alone in the girls’ locker room, I was trying to make some time before leaving, tonight was going to be a long night and with luck I’d survive. I decided it was time to go out and face my destiny, I knew I was being too dramatic about it.

“Buh!” Someone said behind me, grabbing my waist. I let out a small scream and jumped a little. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.” He whispered in my ear. I turned around with a hand resting in my pounding heart.

“Pete, you really scared me!” I said frowning. He gave me a sheepish smile, causing me to smile too. “What are you doing here? Didn’t your practice finish like an hour ago?”

“Well, I was waiting for you.” He said putting an arm around my shoulders and we continued our way out of the gym. “Do you want to go out tonight?” I looked up to meet his eyes but he spoke again before I could. “Oh, it’s not a date, just as friends. We can see a movie or something.” He said smiling. I knew it wasn’t a date, but hearing it from him made me feel a little weird. I would like go out on a date with him. He was a great guy, but it didn’t really matter, he made it clear, just friends. I’d still love to go out and have fun. Why am I obsessing over this again?

“I’d love to, but it’s Friday, remember?” I said with a sad smile.

“Right. I forgot. You’re tutoring Owen today.” I nodded.

“We can watch that movie other day.” I said in a hopeful voice. He just smiled and brought me closer to him. Damn, he was cute.

“Do you need a ride to Owen’s?” He asked nicely.

“No, I still got mom’s car.” I said looking back to him. “But thanks.”

“Yeah, don’t worry. I guess I’ll see you around.” He said smirking and hugged me before heading to his car. I waved as he took the opposite way as me in the school parking lot.

I walked to my car, I wish, someday I would have mine. Anyway, finally I decided to be brave and go to his house. I took the longest way to go there but it still seemed I got there too fast, when I was close to his house I spotted a few cars on his driveway and relieve washed through me, maybe they had a party or something and I could go home still alive.

I was received by Jordan, Owen’s brother; he always had a smile on his face not like Owen. “Jo!” He said happily and warmed me with a tight hug.

“It’s good to see you too.” I said smiling.

“I missed you. I thought you’d come more often considering how stupid Owen is.” He said laughing.

“I’ve been busy with school, but I’m back.” He hugged me again.

“I didn’t know you were interesting in younger boys.” Owen’s voice came out of nowhere. He was so damn annoying.

“Shut up Owen, I’m not that young.” Jordan complained. They were going to start fighting but their mom came just in time.

“What are you doing here? Come inside.” The Principal said nicely.

“Hi, Mrs. Schroeder. I didn’t know you were having a party tonight. I can come another day.” I said smiling.
