Crash and Burn
SHE DUG INTO her back pulling out a red and yellow bag, slipping out the candy into her hands. The sweet taste ran on her tongue, leaning on the doorframe of the jeep. She had taken to snacking when she was stressed, it was at least better than smoking. A bad habit she broke when she was seventeen.
Connie sucked on the lemon drop, glancing over to the storm chasers, shaking her head. Aiden walked over to her, iPad in hand.
"You still eat those?" He asked, she nodded. "You got me hooked on them." Connie reminded him, and he smirked.
"Javi linked us up with satellite radar, his team's creation," Aiden tells her, she raises a brow taking it from him. She ran her navy blue nail over the screen, to the north of them, a large storm was forming, and to the east a pocket storm of sorts.
"We should go west." She says, he raises a brow. "East, is big," Aiden commented, and she smirked.
"Exactly...which is why it's going to fizzle out." She asked him, he nodded impressed. "Think these grubs care about a simple little storm, they want the biggest thing for the views," Connie states."If your friend wants results we should go West," Connie suggested. Aiden nodded, and he took the pad back from her. She looked up, staring across the parking lot, watching the blonde sign shirts and pictures.
"You stare harder maybe he will combust." Aiden teased her, she rolled her eyes. "I don't get it, why is the cash cowboy here?" She remarked.
"Same as everyone else here, chasing a storm." He reminded her, and she nodded. "So we have to stay ahead of him," Connie states.
"More ways than one, and remember we are here to help." Aiden pats her arm. "It's not a competition." He says, she shrugged."Would be better if it was," Connie mumbled, he raised a brow. "I'm kidding." She reassures.
Aiden smirked. "How have you been?" He wonders, she taps the jeep door. "Fine, it's been quiet the last few months." She recalls.
"By quiet you mean boring." He added, she shook her head. "No, it's been simple, nothing crazy," Connie admits.
"Okay, so every time you turn on the news seeing people chasing storms it doesn't make you a tiny bit jealous?" Aiden wondered, she rolled her eyes.
"Are we gonna keep talking about my life or chase a storm?" She asked him, He nodded, walking away.Connie looked over to a clear grassy area, she sighed with the package in hand, sanding over. She looked up at the clouds forming along the tree line, sniffing the air. The air softly blew against the loose hair near her cheek.
The leaves blew west across the pavement of the road, she crossed her arms, thinking. From the way the trees were moving compared to the eastern line of sight, she may just be right on the money. The directional shift is harsher than the other direction.
