If We Make It Through Tonight

TW: This chapter is a very heavy-handed one, tackling the effects of trauma, if you are sensitive to this please for your own sake do not read that part.

SHE USHERED PROPLE as best as she could away from the arena, the sirens blasting loud enough that most people couldn't hear her. Connie panted running across the street to the motel, avoiding cars. She stopped seeing a woman trying to get her daughter into a car.

"No! Get inside!" Connie exclaimed, her brown eyes wide. "Stay out of the car!" Tyler tells the women.

The group panted running inside to the motel front desk, a couple stood inside with them complaining.

"Do you have a storm shelter?" Kate asked the man at the counter, he looked at the three of them puzzled. "Something underground, no window?!" Connie pleaded.

"Maybe like a basement?" Tyler asked him, talking over the man complaining about the room. "There's a line here buddy!" He sneered.

"We need to get people underground right now," Tyler tells him. The girl fanning herself in the corner, "Will you please stop there is no tornado, nine times out of ten it's a false alarm." She complained.

"Are you fucking with me?" Connie snapped at her, she pointed at the window. "Look outside, they are running for their lives!" She exclaimed the siren suddenly disappeared.

"Well, ya hear that.no tornado" The girl mocked. "Now the powers out." The boyfriend complained, a match made in heaven folks, she thought.

"We have to find a shelter fast!" Kate states. Connie brushed past the manager running to the back office, both of them pushed open the back door, the wind slamming the door out.

Her jaw dropped watching the wind sweep away objects, she shook her head. Her eyes fell the the empty pool, and she and Kate looked at each other in silent agreement.

"Tyler we have to get them out!" Connie tells him. His eyes wide, Kate shook her head.

"Everyone follow me!" She ordered. "Follow her! Follow her!" Tyler ordered the people in the room.

Suddenly breaking through the glasses the siren head laid flat onto the ground. Connie huffed following behind Kate as close as she could, yelping and dodging the debris behind her as the wind whipped her hair everywhere.

"Careful, watch your foot." Connie ushered the mother and daughter down. She looked to Kate and Tyler seeing the couple from before trying to drive away as the tornado got closer.

"Hey! STOP!" Connie screamed at them.  "No Stop!" Kate screamed with her. Their truck is picked up, flying into the air crashing into the sign of the hotel.
