chapter twenty four. seasmoke
A small council meeting was called, Alaessa walked to the room, Lord Corlys was already standing waiting for the queen to enter.
Alaessa stood waiting for the queen to sit, "Your grace," Lord Corlys spoke, Rhaenyra and Alaessa were happy to have Lord Corlys as hand to the queen, "Bring him forth."
Ser Steffon emerged, walking down the stairs, Rhaenyra looked at her daughter then Jacaerys, they both give her a nod, ensuring her that they believe in her.
"Ser Steffon Darklyn, Your Grace " The guard called, and Ser Steffon stood at the end of the table, "Is aught amiss, Your Grace? My lords."
"I find myself, Ser Steffon, in an impossible position. I have lost Princess Rhaenys and her dragon. I hold an island seat with no land army. And I must not go to battle myself... as I am constantly told, lest I am slain or captured, and... with me, our hopes of victory," Rhaenyra spoke, as Ser Steffon stood at the end of the table.
"There is still Daemon and Caraxes— and the Rivermen," Ser Steffon made known, and Alaessa looked at her mother whom seems to shriver at the name of her husband, "That remains to be seen. In any case, I must now proceed as if I stand alone. And I see now, that to do that, I need more dragonriders for Vermithor and Silverwing, and for Seasmoke, who I believe misses his bond," Alaessa nodded as she listened to her mother speak, the plan that her and her brother and mother had made was being told.
"But there are no more in your family, Your Grace. Your younger sons are babes. There is Princess Rhaena," Ser Steffon spoke and it caused Lord Corlys to speak up about Rhaena, "She has attempted it, alas, but the dragons here would not take her as a rider."
"Then whom then?"
"You."
"You are of noble birth. And I had always heard, as you know, that the Darklyns and the Targaryens had some common blood. I looked into the history, thanks to my daughter, and indeed it is true. Your grandmother's grandmother, Aeriana, was born a Targaryen princess," The whole council looked confused, "And I have been thinking, could it be possible?" Rhaenyra stood up and Ser Steffon sighed.
"To even consider such a thing," Ser Steffon spoke, Alaessa sighed, "I must protest, Your Grace, the risk involved in such a venture," A man from the council spoke and Ser Steffon came to Rhaenyra's side, and Rhaenyra met with him half way, "I am but a man. The dragons are gods. Your Grace honors me beyond what I deserve," Alaessa watched as he kneeled before his queen.
"You understand your peril, Ser Steffon? I do not compel you to do this. It has never been attempted before. To claim a dragon, you must also be prepared to die," Rhaenyra told him the risk, Alaessa knew if a dragon didn't want to be claimed by a person, then it will risk the survival of the person.
"I well understand the risk and I accept it with gladness. I swore to ward my queen with all my strength, and to give my blood for hers. That is my oath, Your Grace," Ser Steffon spoke on his knees, Alaessa looked to Jacaerys and he looked to his sister, they prayed to the seven gods that it works.
"Then perhaps the gods will favor us."

ALASSSA stood tall, with her mother and brother by her sides. She listens to the dragon keepers sing lullaby, Rhaenyra watched with hopeful eyes, as did Alaessa.
Alaessa could tell Ser Steffon was nervous, as he kept looking back at the queen, the dragon keeper stopped singing, and Alaessa waited. Soon came a dragon.
Alaessa held her breathe not wanting to lose another guard, Jacaerys glanced at Alaessa and she looked over, they turned to see the dragon up closer, it was Seasmoke, they're late fathers dragon.
The dragon keepers spoke in high Valyrian to calm Seasmoke down. Both Rhaenyra and Alaessa helped Ser Steffon speak in high Valyrian, early that morrow.
"Seasmoke...Dohaeras."
Alaessa, Rhaenyra and Jacaerys watched with worries eyes as Seasmoke wasn't calming down, "Rybas!"
Alaessa let out the breath she was holding when Seasmoke lowered his head, Rhaenyra looked at her two children, Alaessa watched as Ser Steffon walked closer to Seasmoke.
Alaessa tilted her head to the side, would they work? she wondered. Rhaenyra smiled softly as she watched, "I've done it."
Just as ser Steffon walked closer to Seasmoke, the dragon stood up, and the dragon keepers yelled in high Velaryian, Alaessa gripped her brothers hand, Seasmoke opened his mother and Alaessa watched as dragon fire burned one of the dragon keepers including Ser Steffon.
The rest of the dragon keepers ran toward the queen the children who stood at the entrance, Alaessa and Rhaenyra watched in horror, "No," Alaessa whispered.
Both Alaessa and Rhaenyra stood side by side, watching as the fire killed Ser Steffon and one of the dragon keepers, Alaessa felt a pull at her hand as it was Jacaerys whom pulled at her to leave, "Mother!" Alaessa snapped her out of thought and she looked at her two children, and left with them but kept looking back.

ALAESSA sat with Jacaerys, "I really wished for it to work," Alaessa whispered, and Jacaerys grabbed a hold of her hand, "We all did Alaessa."
Alaessa smiled softly, "What are we going to do now?" Alaessa asked her brother, "We do what mother tells us," Jacaerys spoke looking at his sister, they heard footsteps walking down the hallway, and the two stood up quickly, and saw there mother walking fast pace down the hallway.
They followed behind her as she walked to the dragon den, where Ser Steffon died.
"Mother!" Both Alaessa and Jacaerys yelled as they watched their mother get on her dragon and fly away.
Alaessa let out a breathe as she looked at her brother, "She left."
Jacaerys turned his attention to his sister, "Your heir, your in charge."
"That I am."
