The vampires forced their respective humans into separate guest rooms. Solace was the first to get thrown into her room, the last thing she saw before the door shut was Manon wincing in pain from the tightness of Vexx’s grip on her arm. Solace threw herself onto the door and protested: They can’t just treat the humans like livestock! Or perhaps that’s all the monsters saw them as…
This thought gave Solace a wave of nausea. She knew she had to do something. Yet, if she were to get caught…
She couldn’t think about the “what ifs”: people’s lives were at stake.
She had to save them, but she couldn’t do it alone.
She needed backup.
After she was certain nobody could see her, Solace opened the window to be met with a fresh, dark, humid night. She looked down, the bottom of the manor far beneath her. She was on the third floor. A certain death awaited her if she were to fall. A question flashed into her mind: How did Esvidaijah climb up to the window then? She inspected the wall and noticed grooves between the granite stones that built up the wall and a small and narrow ledge. Gathering her strength through deep breaths, she climbed out the window and pressed herself against the wall. She slid slowly but surely across the ledge. In a move of stupidity, she looked down at her shaky legs, noticing again the deadly fall she would have to face if she took only one false step. She gulped and continued sideways.

Manon crumpled on the floor, her throat sore from screaming like a madwoman. Her long pink dress spilled around her like large, delicate petals. However, they faded with terror. Not even her tears could revive the color.

Solace heard her voice from a distance and hurried, but on her way, she passed by Kasvald’s room window. From what she could see, it was generously filled with books. The bed seemed to have leaf and small insect carvings at its dark wooden feet, and a pair of night tables at each side. A desk sat next to the huge dark mahogany library. The walls were soft off-white, like a well-loved teddy bear.
It would’ve been a nice sight, were it not for the two Family leaders with their brothers discussing with Hakashim.
Luckily, Solace wasn’t caught. She hurried.

“What is the name of the insolent one?! We should punish them and strip them of their blessing! Our savior shouldn’t forgive them if they cannot follow his simple instructions!” Shouted Vexx. “That is what our rules say!”
“Be calm, Tohv,” Ordered Hakashim. “We don’t need more losses than those of last Gursif.”
Vexx scoffed.
“But they must face the consequences..! Their offering’s impertinence resulted in you being harmed.” He insisted.
“So, the offerings will confront the consequences,” Hakashim explained calmly.
“Or would you rather lose another one of our own, Tohv?” She glared.
The threat was clear. Vexx backed down. Not without thickly swallowing his frustration.
“Sutton, are the potions ready?” She asked.
“Yes, they are.” Skafil responded.
“Good, administer them to the offerings.” She ordered, “The Sutton will take the lower two floors, while the Tohv will take the second and third.”
