Solace looked at Esvidaijah in disbelief.
"What?" She asked, her voice barely above a whisper. She wanted to laugh: vampires now? Was he joking? Just how far would they take their pov bs?? But the farther they took it, the more she doubted herself. Was she going mad? Her 'laughs' got stuck inside her throat and prevented her from making any sound.
But she knew what she needed at the moment.
Solace swallowed the rock in her throat and looked at Esvidaijah with uncertainty. She held onto reality again by focusing solely on the self-proclaimed vampire's words.
"Well, It all started 2600 years ago; there was a civilisation that called themselves the Hekisaj. They worshiped Ufingant, Deity of the Sun and Light, and Sohagjif, Deity of Moon and Darkness." Esvidaijah started. "One day, the Hekisaj committed a terrible sin. They were cursed by Ufingant, and were to die if they ever crossed the light of day."
Solace desperately held her composure.
"Many moons passed. The mortals hid from the wrath of their deity. The cold was such that their hearts froze. They ached for warmth, they ached for a sense of touch, happiness; a sense of life." He continued. "They decided to seal their fate, knowing that an afterlife serving the God of Darkness was a far more honorable path."
"So they..?" Implied Solace with anguish.
"Not in the way you think; our people knew they didn't deserve such a cruel fate," Esvidaijah said. "The Hekisaj travelled through many nights. Sadly, most of them perished on the way. Only one remained. His name was Athem Denghan. He struck a deal with Sohagjif to become his servant and save his dying culture: Sohagjif fed on the souls of sinners, and Athem would feed off their blood and destroy the corpses so as to not arise suspicion from Ufingant. However, the sinners would get to chose between death, and eternal servitude to Sohagjif. But they had to hide from Ufingant, for this deal was a very grave offense towards the rules set for the gods. So essentially, swearing submission to the Lord of Death meant that one's sole existence on this world was a sin."
A moment of silence found its place in the conversation. Solace could barely stay conscious from the sheer horror.
"A- and I'm guessing vampires are sinners who chose servitude over death?" She asked in a shaky voice.
"Somewhat like that. You see: vampires don't have hearts, but an ice core that keeps us conscious." Explained Esvidaijah. "Though this makes us stand the test of time, we vampires have become cold-blooded creatures: we depend on exterior factors to maintain heat and survive. And most importantly, every twenty-years, there's a ceremony called 'the Gursif'."
"What's 'the Gursif'?-"
"Solace?!" cried Skafil in the distance.
Solace whipped her head towards the origin of the voice.
"Shit..."
She whipped her head back at her companion, only to find out he was gone. Her terror was consuming her. Her mind was connecting existing and non-existing dots and trying to come up with any possible solution. She felt shapeless. Powerless. Could she take him out should the need arise? No. He was a vampire: he could kill her. He didn't have any restraints like the other two.
The other two were vampires, too, and she had been acting like a stupid fucking brat this whole time! Oh, God. What if she ran? No, E would catch up to her.
Her breath quickened, and her entire being started to shake. The edges of her mouth dropped dramatically, turning her face into pure terror. Solace felt like screaming, running, beating, but her body didn't budge. Tears of fear ran down her cheeks.
Not again.
Not this again.
NOT RIGHT NOW
"Solace!"
"SOLACE!!!"
" S O L A C E ! ! ! "
Her fear mushed sound together.
" S O L A C E ! ! ! "
Too much
" S O L A C E ! ! ! "
TOO FUCKING MUCH
Everything blended.
Everything was looking at her.
Everything wanted to hurt her.
Everything wanted to kill her.
Slowly.
Twistedly
"WHY DO MY EYES FEEL WARM AND WATERY AGAIN??"
"WHY ARE THERE BUGS IN MY THROAT AND BODY??"
"WHY DOES EVERYTHING WANT ME DEAD???"
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!"
Solace's scream ripped through the sky. She fell onto her knees and screamed even louder.
"MAKE IT STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!!!"
Blurry yet violent images came within her range of vision and imagination, furthering her horror and panic. With each passing second, the skin-crawling things got closer, and they all wanted the same thing: her blood.
Solace crumpled into a small ball and shielded her vision with all of her limbs. A suffocating feeling spilled over her as everything felt like she was inside something's mouth: the air felt moist, warm, and crushing. The trees around her morphed into teeth, ready to chew her. Her panic grew.
And just then, she felt her face getting dunked into ice-cold water.
Was it the end?
