Hannah
The front door to the Alpha cottage was wide open with blood smeared handprint spread across the white, wooden door. Wolf's blood, I picked up the scent as we ran closer to the cottage. My legs couldn't carry me fast enough and my head filled with gruesome images of what was waiting for us inside.
I was the first to enter the premises, tripping over something bulky on the floor which brought me crashing down hard. The object I'd ran into let out a loud, pained wincing cry and I realised quickly that it was a wolf, curled up with a pool of blood building up on the wooden floor. The wolf's sandy brown fur was matted with thick, red blood around its stomach from a gapping, opened wound.
"Watch out." I yell out to the others, not wanting them to also fall over the injured wolf as they enter the cottage.
"Peanut!." Jake exclaims, rushing to the side of the wolf. "It's Sebastian's wolf, he must have come over here when I told him the screaming wasn't from us."
"He can't transition back, an injury like this would kill him if he tried." Tom says as he takes his shirt off and places it against Peanut's wound.
"I can try to heal him." Kayla offers, her voice filled with uncertainty. "I've never healed a wolf this badly injured before though."
"Please try." Jake begs her, moving aside to give her room to work. "He's my best friend, my sister's mate, we can't lose him."
Jake's desperate plea killed me. As much as I despised magic, I knew I had to help because Jake and Louisa would be inconsolable if Sebastian died.
"What can I do?" I ask Kayla, crouching down on the other side of Peanut. His sharp, pained breathing pierced through my heart.
"Take my hands." Kayla instructs me, reaching across Peanut to join our hands. "Close your eyes and visualise Peanut healing."
"That's it?" I question her, thinking that won't do anything.
"I'll do the healing spell but I need you to create positive visualisation, to help speed up the process." Kayla explains, gently. "Block all the negative thoughts from your mind, only allow the image of Peanut's wound healing."
"Alright, I can do that." I tell Kayla, hoping it works.
"Tom and I will go check outside, see if we can find any trace of tracks." Jake says and he and Tom leave Kayla and I alone with Peanut.
I close my eyes tight and begin to visualise Peanut's wound being sewn shut. My breathing becomes deeper as the image forms in my mind. Across from me I can faintly hear the whisper of Kayla's chant but I'm unable to make out the words she speaks.
I allow the world to fall away as the image in my mind becomes clearer. There's an orange glow that spreads over the wound site in my vision. The glow is peaceful as it radiates around Peanut's stomach.
*** What is broken can be healed *** Kayla's voice floods my mind, connecting me to her spell and I watch as the orange glow absorbs into Peanut's wound, bringing the gapping cut closer together. A graft quickly develops over the wound, patching it up as if it never happened.
Fur begins to sprout around the wound site, like a forrest of trees coming to life and I find myself in awe of what I'm seeing. Once all the fur has grown back the wolf stretches out and rolls over, I don't just see this happen, I feel it beneath my hands.
I open my eyes and am pleasantly surprised to see Peanut, sitting up, not a scratch on him.
"You did it." I exclaim to Kayla, helping her up from the floor.
