"I asked her if she had a boyfriend, the question was pushed from my lips before my brain even registered it and then I had to scramble to find an excuse for why I had asked it" I confess to Sebastian knowing full well that I'm placing myself in the firing line of his mockery but I couldn't make sense of why this girl was suddenly consuming my every thought yet she didn't even seemed phased by my existence.

I loved hearing her fire back at me, I felt like I needed to do more to bring that fire to the surface because if she was angry at me then she was communicating with me which I'd take over her ignoring me.

"Hey, if she does then maybe you could set him up with your girlfriend, the one you conveniently forgot about" Sebastian laughs, that deep throaty laugh that he saves for when he's finding humour in how my life is going, which was too often for my liking.

"Angelica is not my girlfriend, she's just a townie"

"A townie that you bring to every social event we hold, have dinner with often in my cottage, who then sits there insulting Lou's cooking , among other things and then you take her back to your place where she spends the rest of the night, loudly, screaming your name over and over until the middle of the night when you send her on her way. She may have slipped your mind but I guarantee you are the only thing on hers and that girl won't go away quietly. I don't even know how you've lasted this long with her anyway, the girl is rude and obnoxious and down right bitchy"

All I have to do is give Sebastian a glare and he understands why it is that I've kept Angelica around for the past year, I'm well aware of the woman's less then spectacular persona but her cold exterior often reminds me of my own, the way that she can be casually cruel in the name of being honest. I never expected her to get attached, in fact I fought against it, putting a wall up and never allowing her to get too close. This was about satisfying needs, both hers and my own. She may be a cold, hard bitch but she knew how to wrap her soft lips around my hard cock and have me at her mercy.

"She's not that bad" even as the words leave my mouth I can tell Sebastian can see right through my lie. I pull the key from my pocket to unlock my office but am stopped by Dr Eaton before we have a chance to get inside.

"Morning Alpha" She greets me, her smile as bright as always, "Can I have a word with you?" She motions towards her own office and I give Sebastian a nod to let him know I wont be long.

Once in Dr Eaton's office she places a  folder in front of me, with the name Emma Burrows written in permanent marker on the folder. I flip the folder open and look through its contents, medical reports dating back over 10 years ago.

"This is what the hospital sent through but I'm still waiting on Emma's blood work, I wanted to talk to you about this before I saw Emma because I've been reading over these reports all morning and I just can't make sense of something"

I search the pages, looking for key words, the words 'Bone Marrow Cancer' appears on all of the reports but what stands out more is the word 'Terminal' on the later dated reports.

"Is it possible you were sent the wrong folder? A mix up at the hospital?" I question the doctor, the girl I had breakfast with this morning was very much alive.

"I thought that too, so I called them and they confirmed that this was her file. Notice on the last page how it claims she was discharged against medical advice, it has her fathers signature there. When I spoke to Emma yesterday she explained that she knew she was sick and that she was in hospital but she didn't know why and her father would avoid telling her but it gets even stranger, he kept her captive in that house, she was isolated from the world until now."

"The other night, when her father was attacked, there was a barrier up, something stopping me from getting past the forrest yet the vampire could freely walk through. The barrier fell once her father was killed because she was able to escape and Sebastian and Daniel went to the house yesterday. I thought the barrier was to stop werewolf's getting through but maybe it was to prevent her getting out"

"But that would mean that her father would have been a pretty high skilled warlock, a barrier is not something amateurs can conjure" Dr Eaton points out

"Do you think Emma knows any of this?" I ask the doctor

"From my brief chat with her yesterday I'd say no" Dr Eaton sighs. "She didn't know she had cancer and would never have known it was terminal. I fear that her father has done something to his daughter, to keep her alive but now that he has died the effects of his spell will most likely wear off"

"Meaning?"

"Meaning she could die" Dr Eaton gravely warns.

"She's my mate" I announce to the doctor, I don't know why though, I've barely admitted it to myself yet.

"That's impossible Alpha"

"Why?"

"Because the Moon Goddess would never have fated you, or any werewolf, with a mate that was destined to die before their 18th birthday and Emma was destined to die when she was 7, she wouldn't have been mated to anyone"

None of this makes sense, Emma was never meant to make it to her 18th birthday therefore theres no way she can be my mate but I know what I feel, I know that she is in fact my mate and I know that she too has shown small signs of being effected by the mateship, the fact that she smells rain whenever I'm near her.

"Can I take these reports? I'd like to look over them some more, maybe we are missing something"

"Of course but I don't think we should share this information with Emma, well not yet anyway, she's just lost her father, I don't want to tarnish the memory of him until we know for certain what he was and what he has done to her to stop her from dying" Dr Eaton frets and I nod my head in agreement.

"I'll take Sebastian and Daniel back up to the house, have a look around, see if we can find some answers"
