ARC 4 : THE EVERLASTING CONTRACT
OPENING
It had been three days since Viu slept like a log. During this time, the alliance Priscilla, Crusch, and Anastasia had attacked the Hakugei and if despite everything they managed with difficulty to defeat it and it was Wilhelm who finished it off, on the way back, Regulus and Lye had attacked the rest of the survivors.
Regulus had killed many people leaving only three survivors of the White Fangs members including Ricardo, Meili and Felix among the decimated soldiers, Al and Priscilla who had left before that happened. Lye in addition to that ate the names of Julius and Crusch, erasing their names from history. The Sins Archbishops had left right after. In the end the world remembered the fact that only the Anastasia and Priscilla camps had beaten the Hakugei but Anastasia had lost a lot while Priscilla was the most popular.
However, the news that Viu had single-handedly defeated the Sin Archbishop of Sloth had spread throughout the kingdom but Priscilla's camp remained as he was hardly considered an official member of Emilia's camp. Speaking of her, she, Puck, and Ram had gone to a place called Sanctuary two days ago.
Viu woke up to find not only Rem but Meili at his bedside. Alfred, with breakfast in hand, stood nearby, ready to attend to Viu's needs.
Viu rubbed the sleep from his eyes and sat up in bed. He couldn't help but notice Rem and Meili's presence, their watchful gazes making him aware of their concern for his well-being.
- Hello everyone! I slept for 3 days....
Rem, Meili, and Alfred returned Viu's greeting with warm smiles.
Rem, still visibly relieved, spoke up,
- Yes, you did. We were a little worried.
Meili nodded in agreement, adding,
-You slept a long time, Viu.
Alfred chimed in,
- Indeed, sir. It's good to see you awake and well.
***
Viu finished his meal.
- Basically, Emilia and Ram were taken to the Sanctuary and you Rem stayed with me. And also Priscilla and her camp got ahead by beating the Hakugei with Anastasia's camp almost decimated, right?
Rem nodded in confirmation.
- Yes, that's right. Emilia and Ram went to the Sanctuary, and Rem stayed behind to ensure your well-being. As for the situation with Priscilla and Anastasia's camps, your summary is correct. They did manage to defeat the Hakugei, but their losses were significant, especially for the Anastasia camp. Priscilla's camp, on the other hand, came out rather unscathed.
Oh shit! Crusch's name must have been erased from history. And Julius...
- Otherwise Rem, you wouldn't have heard of the name Julius Juukulius?
Rem's expression turned serious, a slight frown appearing on her face.
- Julius... Juukulius, she said, as if reciting the name from memory. She shook her head slightly, her eyes meeting Viu's. Rem is afraid not. Is there something specific Rem should know about him?
Him too then..... Anastasia must be devastated right now.... Wilhelm and Felix even more so for Crusch.
- It's a name that I find quite pompous and yet I like it a lot.
Rem pondered Viu's comment for a moment, considering the name.
- Pompous, you say? she mused. It's true, there is an air of formality and dignity to that name. It has a certain kind of elegance to it, doesn't it?
- Indeed. Still, Alfred, you will call Otto, and you will take care of everything in my absence. Meili, you will stay at the manor because I want you here, and Rem you come with me. We will go to the Sanctuary.
Alfred nodded promptly, understanding Viu's instructions.
- As you wish, sir. I will notify Otto and ensure that everything is taken care of in your absence. I trust there will be no trouble?
Meili looked up at Viu, her eyes widening in a mix of surprise and joy.
- I'm staying at the manor? Really?
Rem, meanwhile, stood silently by Viu's bedside, ready to follow his lead.
- Yes really because I feel that the Sanctuary is not a normal place. If anything goes wrong I'll leave you in command of my army.
Alfred acknowledged Viu's instruction with a firm nod, his sense of responsibility kicking in.
- Very well, sir. If you deem it necessary, I will be prepared to take charge in your absence.
Meili seemed both thrilled and slightly nervous at the mention of the Sanctuary.
- Not normal, you say...
Rem remained calm and steadfast by Viu's side, ready to follow his lead wherever he may go.
Viu was taken off guard as Frederica suddenly appeared and tackled him. He struggled for a moment to maintain his balance, but ultimately managed to steady himself.
- Frederica! he exclaimed, his voice a mix of surprise and genuine pleasure. It's good to see you too.
Frederica wrapped her arms around Viu, embracing him tightly.
- You had us all so worried, you know.
Rem stood nearby, watching the reunion with a soft smile.
- Et Allen ? This half-dog girl ?
Frederica released Viu from her embrace and took a step back, a solemn expression on her face.
- Allen is well, she began, her voice slightly strained, though the same can't be said for the puppy girl...
He smiled. Indeed during the two months, Allen to thank him for having freed him had given him the means to go to Sanctuary and he went there often to see Allen as well as Frederica.
- I guess you're here to watch over the Mathers estate instead of Rem. Roswaal's orders, huh?
Frederica nodded, her eyes narrowing.
- Yes, I've been tasked with keeping an eye on the grounds while Rem goes with you to the Sanctuary. Her gaze lingered on Viu for a moment, holding back any comment that might express her concern.
- You'd better watch out for yourself, you hear me? she scolded, her voice both firm and caring.
- I will do it
Frederica's stern expression softened slightly at Viu's reassurance. She knew he was capable, but the worry she felt for him was evident in her eyes.
- You're getting too careless lately, she chided. Promise me you'll be safe.
- I promise.
Frederica's expression remained serious, concern still lingering in her eyes.
- You better keep that promise, she warned, or I'll have your head. Her words were harsh, but there was a hint of affection in her tone that betrayed her true feelings.
Rem, who had been quietly observing the exchange, nodded.
- Yes, sir, she replied softly, her eyes meeting Viu's for a brief moment.
Otto, at the reins, gave a brisk nod and flicked the reins, setting the dragon carriage in motion towards the Sanctuary.
