I woke up feeling drained but still took care of my business as fast I could and left for work. After getting to the office I learned that Seth hadn’t reported in so waited for a while hoping to see him before the time for the meeting. I called Marcus but got to his voicemail instead. At exactly 9 am I hailed a taxi to the sunset cafe to meet the client from yesterday. I ordered a coffee for the meantime since I didn’t take in anything that morning before work.
“Ms. Whyte, right?”, I heard from above me and raised my head to find a man looking at me.
“Yes, Mr. Dior”, I said standing to greet him.
“I can see that Mr. Simmons isn’t here as usual”, he said when he had sat and ordered.
“There was an emergency so he asked me to come in his stead. He’s sorry about that. I’m Penelope Whyte, his assistant, so you can relay any message to him through me”, I said smiling at him.
“It’s good that he saw you first else I would have recruited you instead”, he said smiling back at me.
“Thank you for the acknowledgement, but we have to review the contract since time is not on our side”, I said and placed the envelope in front of him.
“Yes please”, he said and opened the envelope taking the contract out and going through it.
He went through the contract and when he realized it was it to his satisfaction, he signed it.
“It is a pleasure doing business with you”, I said and shook his hand.
“Likewise”, he said smiling at me and left but not before paying for both our orders. I inwardly patted myself at the back for a successful work done. I went back to the office to find Seth’s office still empty. I called both Seth and Marcus but still didn’t get to any of them.
‘I guess they are busy’, I thought going to my office. The whole week went by with meeting clients here and there but not even once did I hear from either Seth or Marcus.
On Friday after work I went to Haven’s Nest, but instead of going as an employee I went there as a customer. I ordered a cocktail from the bar and Sid, our bartender gave me one of our signature cocktails. I felt wronged that both guys avoided me the whole week and didn’t even bother with checking up on me, at least if not for me they should have still checked up on their work. I sat drinking whiles watching people be happy and carefree. After the cocktail, I ordered shots and lost count on how much I had drank. I stood to go to the dance floor to join them and started dancing. It didn’t take long for someone to approach me and felt his hand on my waist. I tensed up and tried moving away from him but he was stronger and held on tightly.
“Hey, let go”, I think I mumbled but he still held on. Just as he was about to touch me indecently I felt a hand pull me into an embrace and everything seemed blurry. I smelt the familiar sent of the person and sighed leaning more into him.
Feeling the cold air on my skin, I woke a little and felt the need to puke. Throwing myself off him I rushed to the nearby washroom and puked my guts out. I rinsed my mouth and washed my face but that wasn’t enough to sober me up. I heard my phone ring and tried looking for it. I followed the ringtone outside and took it from the person holding it.
“Hey babe, what is it?”, I said not bothering to even look at the ID.
“I have to ask you. Why didn’t you tell me you were coming over?”, Haven asked.
“You saw me?”
“Yeah, you decided not to wear the mask so it was easier to find you. Where are you now?”, she asked but before I could answer, my phone was taken away from me. I heard a ‘don’t worry she’s fine’ and a hum before he hang up on her, and that’s all I heard before everything went black.
“You have to take your bathe, you stink”, I heard and pouted raising my hand to him indicating for him to carry me.
“Bathe me, I’m tired”
“No. Do you even know what you are saying or who I am?”
“Yeah, you’re Seth and I’m too tired to bathe myself”, I slurred looking at him with hooded eyes.
After a lot of back and forth between us, he reluctantly agreed and carried me.
“My babe is the best”, I mumbled and smiled.
After helping me bathe, he carried me back to his bed. His scent engulfed me more as he placed me on his bed that I felt lightheaded again. I leaned more into him and heard his breathe hitch above me.
“What are you doing to me?”, I heard from him.
I looked up at him and smiled innocently at him.
“Are you awake now?”, he asked to which I moved away from him trying to organize my thoughts on how to ask him the question that was troubling me the whole week.
“Seth, why did you and Marcus ignore me the whole week? You didn’t care about me and left me alone…….”, I started but before I could continue I felt his lips on mine. He pulled away before I could respond to his kiss. Feeling frustrated with him I pulled him back to me and kissed him just as he had kissed me although sloppily since I was still drowsy. Before it could go any further I slept off hugging him to myself not letting him go.
I woke up the next day with a serious headache and tried to move but was stopped by the hand around me.
‘What the hell happened here’, I thought and raised my head to look at the person next to me.
“Handsome”, I muttered when I saw his face and traced it with my finger to his lips, but stopped for two reasons. First was because of the memories from yesterday’s events, and the other reason being the person beside me. It was then that I remembered the person beside me was Seth who didn’t think to reach out for a whole week. I felt pissed and guilty at the same time, knowing he had a woman caring for him.
I stealthily left his side, dressed and left the hotel we stayed in. I hailed a taxi in front of the hotel home and took a thorough bath when I got home feeling bad for his woman the whole time. I called Haven and told her I wasn’t going to show that weekend, turn off my phone and went straight to bed.
The weekend went by uneventful with me sleeping most of the time, dreading what Monday had in store for me.
