I woke up with a headache not really remembering how and when I got back. I tried to recall what happened but got nothing, giving up, I turned to look for my phone but found an aspirin and water on the bedside table. I took the pill, covered myself with the cloth and went to the bathroom to wash down, feeling sore all over. I remembered what happened between us the previous night causing me to blush profusely. He really did a number on me. I took care of my business and returned back to his room to search for my phone. Just then my phone rang helping me find it easier.
"Hello"
"Hello, how are you doing?", Haven asked sounding worried leaving me confused.
"I'm good. Why are you asking?"
"I called yesterday but a guy answered instead, so I thought something was wrong", she explained. I smiled at how thoughtful she was.
"Ah that would be my boss", I mumbled scared she was going to overreact with that information.
"Your boss answered your phone? I smell love in the air. You have to tell me everything", she squealed and I could her the smile in her voice.
"Hey calm down. We'll talk about everything later okay, I've got to go", I ended the call when I heard the door open.
"I brought breakfast", he said entering the room.
"Thank you"
'What should I do now? Maybe I should pretend to not remember anything to avoid being awkward with him', I thought and walked over to him.
"Do you still have a headache?", he asked after our meal.
"No and thanks for earlier", I said referring to the aspirin.
"No need for that. We will be leaving at dawn so you have to finish packing early", he said and left my side.
'Isn't he going to say anything? Is he avoiding it like me or is he regretting it?', I thought feeling sad all of a sudden.
I left to pack my things and when everything was done took a nap to clear my thoughts awaiting our flight. I wondered if we were going to ignore the feelings brewing and go back to just being a boss and his assistant.
I've never been happier to be back home than I was now. I admit Paris was fun and all that but there was no place like home, and I missed my friends and family too.
Just as we came out of the airport we found Marcus waiting by his car for us.
"What took you guys so long? I've been here literally for hours now", he said dramatically, walking towards us.
He met us halfway and hugged me. I stiffened in his embrace but hugged him back when the emotions got to me. I had missed him and his cheerful character. He chuckled at my behaviour and ruffled my hair.
"Missed me that much?", he smiled at me. We didn't know when it started but Marcus and I had started addressing each other as though we were siblings.
"Welcome back. I hope he didn't give you a hard time", he said looking all serious to which I giggled.
"No, he was a good boy", I whispered to him earning a chuckle from him. Even though his current behaviour hurt me I pretended to be happy so Marcus didn't suspect anything.
"Can we leave now or you guys aren't done with your flirting?", Seth said a little annoyed.
"Let's go darling before our boss yells at us again", he said sarcastically smirking at me.
He ignored us and entered the car after putting his bag in the car trunk. Marcus asked me to sit whiles he packed my bag inside for me. Just as I entered I felt lips on mine forcefully trying to claim me but pushed him away when we heard the trunk being closed.
"Are you guys decent?", Marcus teased as he entered the car. Feeling embarrassed I looked through my handbag for my phone. I turned it on to find out I had several missed calls from Haven and an unknown number. I called Haven back, told her I was back in the country and explained why she couldn't get to me earlier. I assured her I was going to meet her during the weekend and hang up on her. I contemplated on whether to call the unknown number too but before I could make the decision, the number called back.
"Hello", I said when I answered but the person remained silent.
"Please who is this?", I asked and I could feel Seth looking over at me. Even Marcus was looking at me through the mirror mouthing if I was okay to which I nodded.
"I'm going to hang up then", I said when I still got no response but was stopped before I could.
"It's me, Pen. I'm back", I heard causing my heart to sink and the smile to fall from my face.
"Where are you?", I asked upset.
"I'm back home, baby. But where are you, I've been here for days and I still haven't met you. Are you avoiding me?", he said and before I could answer or hear what he had to say next, I hang up.
"Fuck", I thought but I guess I thought loudly because Marcus stopped the car and they both looked at me concerned.
"Is there a problem?"
"No", I said but they didn't seem to believe me, heck I didn't believe myself with the way my hands were shaking and I was sweating. I felt an attack coming and felt constricted suddenly. It's been awhile since I had an attack and forgot I even went through something like that. Seeing this Seth moved to my side and tried helping me through it.
"Just breathe in and out okay. Follow me and listen to my voice", he said sounding worried and rubbed my hand. I felt Marcus' hand rubbing my back and found myself calming down. I hugged Seth and started feeling drowsy.
"I don't want to go back home", I mumbled and fell asleep against Seth.
I woke up and found myself in an unfamiliar room and remembered what had happened. I got up from his bed and checked my phone to find calls from his number. He sent me a message saying he knew I was back from my trip and that I needed to go back home, that I couldn't hide forever. I called Haven to find out if she had sold me out to him.
"Did you call him?", I asked when she answered not even giving her the chance to talk.
"He called asking where you were, saying he couldn't reach to you"
"Bu... but why did you have to tell him. He... he....", I stuttered out but stopped because she didn't know the whole story between us.
"What is it? Penny what are you hiding from me?", she asked realizing something was wrong.
"Nothing, I was just surprised he called you", I said and hang up on her.
'Fuck, fuck', I thought. I didn't know who to be angry with, Haven for telling him, him for coming back or myself for enduring everything that had happened without telling anyone about it. I could hardly blame Haven because she didn't know what had happened between us, I just told her what I thought she was to know and kept the rest to myself. I readied myself and left his room so as to leave his house. I left his room to meet him in the living room going through some stuff on his laptop.
"I'm leaving', I said interrupting his focus.
"Let me finish this and send you home"
"No, I'm okay. You can continue your work, you don't need to see me off", I said trying to leave but he held my hand stopping me.
I can't let them meet each other else there would be trouble but Seth was too stubborn to let me go alone. I reluctantly agreed and sat waiting for him to be done so he could drop me home.
"Let's go", I heard and followed after him with my handbag. He pulled my suitcase with him and placed it in his car trunk. I entered the car and held tightly on to my bag feeling tensed all over. He raised my head to look at him and placed a kiss on my forehead. I smiled and felt myself ease up.
'I'm fine', I thought letting go of my worries.
Just as we reached my house, the door opened and he came outside to meet me, tensing me up again.
"Are you sure you're okay?", he asked looking at the person waiting outside my house.
"Yes. Thank you and see you on Monday", I said opening the door to leave but he beat me to it and alighted first. Seth got my suitcase from the trunk but before he could give it to me, he came for it and pulled me to his side.
'I was in so much trouble', I thought looking away from Seth.
"I missed you, babe", he said sweetly to provoke a reaction from either Seth or me but Seth paid no attention to him.
"See you on Monday, rest well", Seth said and turned to leave. I turned to look at him to respond only for my head to be pulled roughly to him and forcefully kissed. I tried pushing him away but stopped when he held my waist tightly. He was warning me and I got a little scared. He moved away when Seth drove his car away from us and looked pissed as hell.
"Another guy of yours?", he asked glaring at me.
