The Return

Sheriff Forbes is at the hospital desk. Grace came running in and gave her a big hug.Damon walks over to them "Liz, I came as soon as I got the message. Is she okay?"
Liz then replied," She's in surgery, it's...they're doing everything they can. I need your help Damon."

Grace excused herself and sat in the waiting room.

"A mistake was made, they said he dropped like the others when John's device went off but he...he couldn't have been a vampire, I've known the man my whole life and now Carol Lockwood is gonna want answers and all I can think of right now is Caroline and..."

She begins to cry. Damon hugs Liz as she weeps.

Later Grace was sitting next to Matt. Both were just quiet. Grace had tears rolling down her cheeks. She felt like she could've stopped this. It was her fault. Her brain was foggy like she was not supposed to remember something.

They were of Caroline's room. Bonnie arrives and walks over to them.

" How is Caroline?"

Matt answered her," She's not good, Bon."
Bonnie asked them,"What happened?"

"We were driving and Tyler heard this noise and he got...
He got this migraine or something and he lost control of the car and...I thought that Caroline was fine and then...and then she wasn't so... "

Grace's pov

Visiting hours were over and Jenna dragged me to the house. I did not want to leave Caroline alone.

Maybe fate is stopping me from saving Care from the vampire life. Caroline will be better as a vampire and this time around she knows about vampires. It was like I was unable to stop certain events from happening.

And it is not like I can stop vampires that are hundred times stronger then me.

The next morning I went in Caroline's room. Caroline is awake and looking completely healthy.

I hugged her as gently as I could with tears in my eyes."I am so sorry , I should have been there. The accident was bad Care." I whispered quietly,"Bonnie and Elena let Damon give you blood to heal you. So if something happens today to you, you can turn into a vampire. But whatever happens , I will be here. And remember Doppelganger is around."

Caroline hugged her back,"We can face anything together, okay. I will be safe. I wasn't your fault."

"Promise me that you will tell me the truth." We made a pinky promise.

"I have to go to the ex's father's funeral. Today is starting off great."

Caroline laughed and said,"Good luck with the Lockwoods."

At the Lockwood Mansion, I walk out out to the front porch with a glass of whiskey and over to Katherine, pretending it is Elena.

"Will I be a crazy ex if I get drunk at his father's funeral? I hate this. But I love the curls by the way. The darker look fits you more." I put a loose hair behind my ear, not thinking of the consequence and she saw my 'tattoo' .
It seems like it caught her attention.

Katherine was intrigued by Grace. She was a strange character she can't figure out.

"Thanks. Trying some new stuff out." I wiggled my eyebrows, thinking about the Damon kiss." Don't bring up last night ever, okay. So when did you get the tattoo?" 'Elena' pointed to my ear.

Shit, I forgot about that.

I look down nervously," I think I got it when I was drunk or something."

Bonnie walked up to us,"Well, Bonnie is here. So, I am leaving."

I managed to find Tyler alone in a office room. "I know you hate me, but if you need someone to talk too. I am here." Tyler just nodded and drank from a flask. I decided to walk away. My head is on fire again. I need sleep. Mom took me home and I passed out on the bed.

3rd pov

Caroline is in bed, sleeping. She wakes up and sees Katherine.

" Elena?"

Katherine walked up to her," Hey Caroline."
Caroline knew this was not Elena,"What are you doing here?"

"My name is Katherine. I was hoping you could give the Salvatore brothers a message for me."

Caroline had no way out, she might turn tonight. Grace warned her something might happen,"What are you talking about? What message?"

"Game on."

Katherine grabs one of Caroline's pillows and pushes it down over her face and smothers her. Caroline screams and struggles until she dies. Katherine takes the pillow off and places it next to Caroline. She casually walks out of the room.

After a confusing conversation with Elena and Jenna about the night's events, Damon is the first to realize that Katherine has returned. Katherine's arrival sends Stefan and Damon on a path to find out what she wants, why she's back, and how much of a threat she is to the people they love.

Meanwhile, still reeling from his father's death, Tyler is surprised when his charming and mysterious uncle, Mason Lockwood, arrives to console the family.
