Chapter 13

Leaving Mimi's cell, the three of you return to the previous room. Y/N looks around the room, Gabumon and Mimi, either side of you.

"How'd you know that was Impmon? " Gabumon asks

"Honestly, I'm not too sure. It's like what happened at the house."

"What house?" Mimi interrupts

You turn to look at Mimi. "We stumbled onto a house in the middle of a forest that seemed to appear overnight."

"The house appeared overnight or the forest?"

"Both. We were camped near the forest if we'd known it was there and had Phantomon and knew who's what else in it, we wouldn't have been near. "

Mimi looks hurt. " So you guys weren't looking for me?"

Y/N puts a hand gently on her shoulder. "I only found out you and the other DigiDestined were missing when Gabumon and I found Sora and Biyomon trying to fight an Ogermon."

"Sora's here too?" Mimi looks down at the ground before looking back at you." Do you think the others are trapped here too?"

"I don't know, I didn't think it would be possible for anyone to come back here. If they are here, they could be anywhere."

Mimi looks at your hand on her shoulder, and she smiles slightly at it. The brief silence is broken by a loud thud of metal. All three look towards the two big arched doors as they slowly start to move. The hinges squeak with the weight of the doors being swung back.  Y/N scans the area, taking your hand away, and giving the door full attention. Everything goes quiet once more. Mimi takes a step to the side to be standing behind you.
A bright spotlight shines down, lighting up the middle of the room.  Y/N takes a few steps forward coming to the doorway, Gabumon on your right, and Mimi behind you. The dark borders of the room emit an eeriness that you can't shake.

You groan. "What's with today and all the creepy ass rooms"

"Someone's scared of the murder room," Gabumon mocks

You give Gabumon side eyes, trying to hide the smirk on your face with a serious look. Mimi giggles at the two of you

"You two haven't changed at all,"

Y/N smiles at Mimi before turning his attention to Gabumon, you bow mockingly gesturing towards the room. "After you, Gabumon."

Gabumon shakes his head. "No, no, after you, I insist,"

You look back into the room and shrug before you start walking into the room. The sound of your footsteps echoing off the walls, Gabumon's and Mimi's a split second after you.

You stop in the centre of the room, the light beaming down on you all, looking around you all peer into the darkness, unable to see anything. "Well, this is anticlimactic."

You take another step, the brick clicking down ever so slightly, and you internally facepalm cursing yourself at the same time. You grit your teeth, head on a swivel, waiting for something to happen.

"Something happened to the floor," Mimi says with fear in her voice. You all look down at the floor, and certain bricks start to light up in an orange colour.

"Don't stand on the orange bricks" you quickly say, grabbing Mimi's hand and pulling her towards you, Gabumon takes a step closer to you as well

As the floor continues to light up, you start to recognise the symbol it's making, a silhouette of a bat, or more commonly known in the digital world. The mark of evil.

Mimi gasps, keeping a hold of your hand and standing slightly closer to you. Gabumon and you keep looking around the room

"Be ready for anything, Gabumon."

Gabumon nods his head, a serious expression on his face

A slow clapping starts echoing throughout the room, looking for the source

"Ahhhh, Digidestined, welcome." The words so chilling you could swear the room got colder

Mimi grips your hand even tighter. " I recognise that voice. It's the last voice I heard before waking up in the digital world."

You could hear the fear in Mimi's voice. You give her hand a gentle squeeze

"You recognise my voice, good. Although you should have remained in your cell, Miss Tachikawa. You, on the other hand. " You could hear the anger in its voice "Shouldn't be here, I didn't take you back to the digital world."

"I never left." You say defiantly

Interesting, I wonder if you could be the anomaly, " the voice returning to the cold tone

"An anomaly? What is that supposed to mean?"

The voice laughs echoing throughout the room." No matter, you'll be dealt with soon enough."

The room falls silent for a moment before the voice speaks again 

"Miss Tachikawa, since you've managed to escape, which is a surprise in itself, I've got a gift for you."

A snap follows the voice, and the ground starts to shake. A few feet away from you, the bricks slowly start to rise. A cage rises having been hidden beneath the floor. Once the rumbling stops, the cage door swings open, and Palmon falls out.

"Palmon!" Mimi runs over, gets to her knees, she hugs Palmon. Palmon weakly hugs her back. "Mimi," Palmon says softly

Gabumon and Y/N both look over to Mimi and Palmon as they hug, the two friends reunited for the first time in a long time.

"Miss Tachikawa you and Palmon are free to leave" A green exit sign lights up in the dark to the right of where the DigiDestined are standing " Follow the exit signs and you'll be allowed to live out the rest of your life here.

"What? You're letting me go?"

You hear the fear in Mimi's voice. You can't help but think following the exit signs is an obvious trap. The voice ignores Mimi's question

"leave now before I change my mind. For you anomaly or should I call you Y/N"

You feel a chill run down your spine, hearing that voice say your name made you feel uneasy

"I also have a gift for you, I'm going to reunite you with an old friend of yours."

The room falls into silence again. You look at Mimi and Palmon, who are now both standing up, Mimi looks back at you. "What does it mean by an old friend?"

You look back at her just as confused. " I have no idea."

As soon as you finish your sentence, you hear a horrifyingly familiar metal clang

Y/N eye's go wide and the colour starts to drain from your face.

"Y/N? What's wrong?"

"We need to run now!"
