Chapter 15

Y/N and Mimi continue walking with their Digimon, both of them with an outstretched arm using their digivices as torches to light the dark pathway. Mimi's stomach grumbles, her cheeks going red in embarrassment. Y/N looks over after her, and Mimi continues to look straight ahead. Y/N playful nudges her arm with his elbow, pulling a funny face as she looks at him. Mimi holds back her laughter, a smile coming on her face.

Palmon had managed to recover enough strength to walk unaided. She'd been able to tell you all that she also heard a familiar voice before being captured but couldn't remember whose voice it was.

Y/N had no idea how long they'd been walking. You pushed the feelings of this all being just a trap, and there was no real escape out of your mind. Trying to lighten the mood while you walk

"Who wants to play a game?"

You hear Gabumon groan, out of the corner of your eye you see Mimi look at you slightly confused

"Ah, come on, it'll be a fun game." You look over to Mimi and smile before continuing," I spy, with my little eye something behind with D?"

Gabumon groans even louder, and Mimi and Palmon giggle.

"I'm not playing," Gabumon says firmly

"That's cause you don't know the answer," You say in a teasing manner

Gabumon stops walking and turns to face you "I see something that starts with a D"

Mimi and Palmon both burst out laughing, you pretend to look hurt and offended at Gabumon's comment before the two of you smirk at each other and carry on walking once more.  The sounds of your footsteps echoing, you look over to Mimi, who's still got a smile on her face, you smile slightly to yourself

A couple of minutes go past

"So, is anyone going to guess?"

Gabumon rolls his eyes, and Mimi and Palmon laugh again. Mimi playfully pushes Y/N's closest arm, and the two smile at each other.

Y/N stumbles and nearly trips over Gabumon, who suddenly stops. Mimi reaches for your arm, helping steady Y/N back on his feet

"Jeez Gabumon what was that all about?" You look at him and watch as he tilts his head

"Can't you hear it?"

"Hear what?"

"I hear it too," says Palmon

"Can we stop the guessing game guys, what do you hear? You respond

"Water" the two Digimon respond simultaneously

You look at Mimi you see the relief on her face "Maybe it's our way out?"

Y/N, Mimi and their two Digimon continue walking, a new sense of hope washing over them.

It wasn't too long before Mimi & Y/N could both hear the rushing water, echoing towards them. The pathway starts going uphill, the increasing gradient slowing them down slightly. The hallway starts to get lighter as they go, enough for both Mimi and Y/N to put their digivices back into their pockets.

The crashing water gets louder the further they go

"Sounds a bit like a waterfall" Y/N says louder than normal to be heard

"I think it's more likely rapids" counters  Mimi

The two look at each other, Y/N notices the sunlight, lighting up Mimi's eyes. Giving her honey-brown eyes a magical glint

"Y/N?" Mimi says softly, you can just hear her over the rushing water

You shake your head slightly, breaking eye contact. Looking ahead once more, questioning yourself internally for staring at her

"Waterfall Or Rapids. We've got daylight, means we're nearly out."

It wasn't long after that you all stood above ground, the clearing mostly barren of vegetation. The sound of the rapids coming from in front of you, a boulder, had been cut into the shape of a bench, looking over the rapids.

Mimi, Palmon, and Gabumon walk towards the bench, wanting to take in the sunrise. You watch them for a second before looking back to where you'd come from. You watch a stone platform slowly slide out from the side covering the exit. It thuds into place and rises slightly to make the ground flush once more

You tilt your head slightly, thinking to yourself "secret passageways, Digimon that want to kill me and a mysterious voice that seems to be responsible for everything"  Y/N sighs, your shoulders sinking slightly as you do

"Y/N" Mimi calls over to Y/N. You turn to look at her, she has a beaming smile on her face, " I told you it was rapids"

Y/N rolls his eyes and smiles at her, walking towards them. " I'm just glad we didn't put any money in it. You'd have been getting an" I owe you"

As Y/N get to the bench, Mimi is sitting down on it, with the Digimon resting on the floor with their backs against the stone. Mimi pats beside her for you to sit down. Y/N sits beside her, Mimi gently nudges your arm with hers

"I wouldn't take an I owe you, it's cash all the way."

The two of you laugh, smiling at each other before turning back to appreciate the sunrise. The rising sun warming your cold skin after being underground for so long. Mimi gently rests her head against your shoulder, cuddling your arm slightly

"Thank you for rescuing me Y/N," she says softly.
