Lisa pursed her lips, and simply gave up, “Teacher, I know that since half a year ago, you wanted to promote the marketing route in the B City branch. But I obstructed and resisted from doing so. You have been very opinionated about me. But don’t you think that it’s not a responsible attitude towards the law at all? For the head office of such a reputable law firm to engage in this kind of thing, to completely turn the work of the law firm into entertainment, and even to come up with some kind of script to make up stories? How is a diligent lawyer supposed to do honest work with so much chaos in the background and without getting interrupted by the ongoing recording procedure? And during the shooting and filming, who can guarantee that the sensitive information of the client has not been accidentally exposed already?”

As expected, Hyunjae’s face sank, “Lisa, you are only a commission lawyer of ZhaoHui. I am the one who runs the firm. Marketing is a sure way to increase the firm’s popularity. After ZhaoHui started to participate in these marketing operations, the business volume has increased more than double. If ZhaoHui wants to continue to move forward, it is necessary to promote its brand name. You’re not a partner, so your approval for marketing is not needed. Just get out if you have nothing better to do.”

And just as Lisa was about to turn around and leave, Hyunjae’s voice rang out once again, “And don’t call me Teacher anymore. I’ve been out of university for many years and you’re no longer my student.”

“I know that during the founding days of ZhaoHui, you also suffered and sacrificed a lot. But people can’t rely on their merit and on past achievements to feel that they are qualified enough to advise ZhaoHui on what to do next. You told me that there is a limit to your tolerance, and so is mine.”

Lisa was taken aback, and looked at Hyunjae in disbelief, but the other party did not look up and didn’t even bother to give herself another look.
Lisa  bit her lips tightly and pulled her hand to open the door.

It was true that she had overstepped her bounds by storming into Hyunjae’s office and calling out, but hadn’t she done so every time in the past? Even for her own dissent and persistence, Hyunjae did not go to the fork in the road many times without being self-willed. The final thoughts on the handling of several big cases that made ZhaoHui famous were even due to her own risky and straightforward words, which prevented Hyunjae from capsizing in the gutter.

All this time, Lisa thought that Hyunjae accepted and recognised this side of herself, yet now, she realizes that Hyunjae actually did not.
Lisa  took a deep breath, “I know.” She paused before saying, “Partner Kang.”
________________

Lisa returned to her desk and her heart was still uncomfortable and cold.;
Stop calling him Teacher . She was no longer his own student. What was the subtext?

The subtext was for Lisa to understand that she was now just like all the other lawyers of ZhaoHui, just an employee of Hyunjae. She doesn’t have to feel that she was any different because of her relationship back in the university or that she shared difficulties with him when ZhaoHui was founded.

But in fact, Hyunjae doesn’t need to be so blunt. He could have just stopped at that. He doesn’t need to say anything later. She was not stupid.

It’s just ironic that Hyunjae thinks that she’s always gesticulating because of her past efforts. He doesn’t know at all. Every time she communicates with him about her thoughts and worries was not because of what she has done for ZhaoHui and Hyunjae, but rather for the kindness Hyunjae has shown to her during her struggling days.

Because of this kindness, she doesn’t want to see ZhaoHui become more and more biased. Even from a commercial point of view, the business and income generation are getting better and better, but Bai Duanduan always feels that in order to win as a lawyer, it was necessary to uphold the bottom line of the principle of justice. Many practices were indeed not illegal, but they are too inferior and not worth advocating.
Forget it, if she can’t change Lin Hui, then at least she shouldn’t change herself for that reason.

Lisa gathered her emotions and cheered up again. She sat down and began to immerse herself in the compensation plan for the dismissal of the 300 employees.

The next case would be against Jeon Jungkook again, and this time she couldn’t lose.

Lisa wanted Hyunjae to know that she was different from Sujin. That she could win fairly, and that she didn’t need to rely on such unorthodox tactics.

A labor dispute involving 300 employees was a major case, both in terms of the target amount and social impact. Once it was done, it will basically be regarded as a benchmark in the industry. For senior lawyers, it was like an icing on the cake for their professional career. For young lawyers, it was a good opportunity to climb the social ladder.

Hyunjae’s intention to promote Sujin was obvious when he asked her to work with Lisa on this case.

Sujin was not stupid either. She has almost no interest in cases where the target amount is small, and not heavy enough. Usually even if Hyunjae places her in the rest of the lawyer’ team, she relies on other lawyers to do all the brainstorming work while she would just lie down and enjoy the end result—-

In short, she wouldn’t not be responsible for the specific case management or would never actively take part in any case, but she would be willing to participate in the final share.

And now that Lisa has such a big case at hand, she was itching to get involved in it anyhow.

Lisa thought it would be good to have someone to help with this case, but she was having a hard time with Sujin’s involvement.

Lisa originally allocated 50 employees to Sujin, asking her to help her calculate the financial compensation for the dismissal. However, after Sujin brought in the calculation results, Lisa double-checked them and got nearly one third wrong.

In the end, Lisa could only resign herself to the fact that she had to do all 300 employees’ proposals by herself.

“In two days, we will have the first negotiation with Jeon Jungkook. He is acting for the company and he will definitely find ways to find the flaws of our employees in order to lower the price.” Lisa came up with a good plan. “I have listed all possible points of attack for each employee, and I have also made a response plan. Whether the company is willing to settle in the end or decide to go through arbitration and litigation, we can at least ensure that employees must get a full amount of economic compensation. For 300 employees, we must go all out for each of them.”

Although she did not see eye to eye with Sujin, Lisa always believed in a clear distinction between public and private matters. As long as Sujin was willing to learn, she would not shirk from her responsibility and refuse to teach.

“You can take a look at this overall plan, and get familiar with it.
Although this time the employees as a whole have elected one of their worker members as their representatives who will defend their rights, the subsequent company may not be able to accept each employee’s plan. There may be talk about lowering the price. At this time, personalized communication is required. We must first confirm each employee’s acceptance of the enterprise settlement plan one by one. Therefore, you and I each need to be responsible for the communication of some employees, and have an understanding of the situation of each employee.”

Sujin accepted the settlement plan made by Lisa and nodded, “The person we are going to meet today is the employee’s representative?”

“Yes, Song Kang, who has worked in Simon Paper for 12 years. He is a very well liked veteran. The rest of the employees unanimously agreed for him to be elected as a representative to communicate about the layoffs.”
sujin  rolled her eyes thoughtfully, “Oh”.

And as soon as her voice fell, Song Kang arrived.

“Sorry, lawyer Manoban, lawyer Kim, there was a traffic jam on the road, so I was delayed for a while.”

He was a middle-aged man who looked rather good natured at first, dressed plainly and wearing a pair of glasses on his nose. For the pre negotiation communication with the company, Lisa chose to meet in the western restaurant which was just below the law firm, and it had a nice and calm environment.

Song Kang was a very good communicator. Within half an hour, Lisa made it clear to him one by one the current situation, precautions and follow up feedback for each claim that Simon Paper may make.

Lisa was relieved when she met such a sensible client. She looked at the time and complained, “Why hasn’t the food been served yet? Wait a minute, I’ll go to the bar and check it for myself.”
