"I can't believe you. We talked about this," Aliyah's voice rang through my ears.

"Can you hear what I have to say first?"

"No, we specifically decided on this. How could you betray me like this," her cute lips formed a pout, "I can't serve red velvet at the wedding, it's too basic, and I will not be a laughing stock. I mean, I thought you would -"

"I'm just getting the red velvet cake for me and you, not everyone else," I interrupted.

"Oh, okay, that will do," she smiled.

"Maybe if you had let me get a word in, we would have been gone already," I leaned over to give her peck on the lips.

"Sorry. I couldn't see past a sudden act of betrayal," she blushed, embarrassed.

"So I assume you've come to a decision?" The lady asked.

"Yes, one the top layer will be red velvet, the other layers can have the flavors we picked out already," Alyiah took charge while I sat there admiring her.

I still couldn't believe I was marrying her, I still couldn't believe she said yes. Me proposing wasn't the most romantic, I had the ring hidden in the side table beside my bed, and I felt paranoid she would find it. So, while she was showering in the bathroom, I took it out and decided I would put it on her pillow and pretend to be asleep.

Hearing the door pull, my eyes screwed shut, and I tried my best to keep my breath even. The moment she saw it, I heard her breath hitch, and I could feel the bed dip beneath her weight.

"Oh my gosh," she whispered. "He can't be serious."

I didn't feel her move for a few moments, then I felt her pushing my body, "Get up, you bastard, I know you aren't sleeping."

Not giving her a response, I laid eyes shut in the bed. I felt her push me in my back, and she straddled my hips.

"Are you serious? Do you really want to marry me? Is this a prank? It's a prank, isn't it - I mean, why would you want to marry me so -,"

"Why wouldn't I want to marry you?" I interrupted, my voice low due to me just waking up.

"Because we just finished college, isn't this too soon, and what if you get tired of me and -,"

"I'm getting tired of this conversation," my hands came up to rest on her exposed thighs. "I've wanted to marry from the day you said you love me. I've waited far too long, and if I was tired of you, you wouldn't be here right now."

"But-,"

"But nothing," I squeezed her thighs so she would get the message. "Alyiah, love of my life and light of my world. Would you do me the honor of making me your husband."

"Yes," her words came out breathless, and she connected the distance between our lips. A smile stretched on my lips as I kissed her, happy with her choice.

After coming up for air, she rolled off me and hid her face into her pillow. A scream followed several seconds after, her feet rapidly kicked the bed, and I couldn't help but laugh.

"I'm gonna be a wife," she said in amazement as she took her head out the white pillow.

"I'm gonna be your husband," I grinned.

"I never thought I would be happy someone cheated on me," she laughed, coming to hug me again.

"Neither did I."

After that, Alyiah couldn't wait to tell her mom and her new step-dad, she face timed them right away, showing her the tear drop shaped ring with a diamond surrounded by pink rubies. Of course Mrs. Anderson wasted not time in crying, and the same went for my mom as soon as I had shown her.

Now we sat her a week before the wedding, finalizing everything. The process leading up to this was one of smooth sailing as we didn't have a lot of people to invite. It would be Alyiah's family, plus mine, the basketball team, and that was about it.

The boys and I have been keeping in contact ver since we left high school, deciding to go out three times per month, Alyiah was invited, of course, but she insisted this was time for the boys. We mostly played basketball together, but sometimes we would just sit and talk about what's to come. Only a few were still going pro with basketball, and we were all rooted for them.

I was grateful for them. They kept me through high school and college, and now they were gonna be at my wedding. It felt surreal. A grin made it way to my face, remembering when we went ring shopping, and I forced all of them to wear rings on all their fingers so I could get a better look. They took their jobs a bit too serious, even posing, dramatically gasping at every ring they had put on, and practicing how they would propose.

My memories came to an end when a familiar pinch met my hands, "Ouch."

"Don't pout at me. Did you ever hear anything I just said?" Alyiah questioned.

"No, but how could you blame me when you look so good," A smirk made its way to my face when I saw a blush rise to her cheeks.

"Nice try," she rolled her eyes.

"It's the truth," my hands intertwined with hers. "I can't wait to marry you."

"Me too," she placed a soft kiss on my cheek and used her other hand to gently caress my cheeks. "I love you so very much."

"You're the best thing that ever happened to me," I gave her lips one more peck and gave the baker my full attention as she came back in the room.
