Sitting down at the long table with Adrian, Gen, Basile, and the others who were brought back into the room after Adrian's and (Y/N)'s one-sided discussion, (Y/N) felt trapped. She could feel Adrian's stare on her no matter how hard she tried to ignore it, the situation at hand also not helping with the fact. Currently, Adrian was discussing plans and operations for catching the traitor that they knew had infiltrated the palace, however there being too many suspects and too many options for how to go about that.

As such, he only enlisted the people who were skilled enough and those he trusted most. (Y/N) was honestly surprised upon hearing that, her mind wandering back to not even five minutes ago.

    He... said I irritated him.

    No...

It was something about me, but... isn't that just the same thing!?

    But his last sentence...

Feeling chills crawl up her flesh, she suppressed the urge to shiver, wanting to also suppress those thoughts that he had stirred within her. Yet, no matter how hard she tried to accomplish that, the words that he had said kept reverberating through her mind, not once letting her relax.

    Why lock me up?

Wouldn't it be more natural if he said that he wanted to kill me?

Not that that option is better...

But it would make more sense, right?

"Honestly, the way the culprit went about this so obviously is insufferable," Gen huffed and crossed her arms, making (Y/N) snap her attention back to the current subject at hand.

"Oh?" Basile raised an eyebrow, lacing his hands together and setting them on the wooden table. "And why is that, Captain?"

"It's obvious that they are trying to weaken our defense and our capability with the recent attack and now His Majesty's murder," she explained as she then unfolded her arms to tap a finger on the table to further get her point across. "They succeeded in this only because they wanted to weaken the royal family's hold on Carmella. However..." She slid her eyes over to (Y/N), then to Basile, and then to Adrian where she finally stopped, continuing, "...why they didn't do it when you were gone is what is mystifying to me. So, I can only conclude that the traitor was with you."

"That's impossible," Basile shook his head, his eyes narrowing. "Most of our men were attacked and killed by bandits. The ones that weren't did nothing that would sabotage the mission."

"No..." Adrian interrupted, rubbing his chin. "What Captain Gen here is saying makes sense. When I was not here and the palace was left almost defenseless, why did they choose the moment that we had returned to kill His Majesty? The timing... it just doesn't line up."
