꧁꧂Using all of her strength, (Y/N) could feel her grip slipping on her sword from how sweaty her hands were. Jannali was proving herself to be a worthy foe by her excellent hand-to-hand combat skills and how good she was with wielding her spear—even in a foreign environment. Adrian and her were backed up inside the room with a few more of her guards by her side. It was an uneven match, but they were holding their own while backup was outside fighting, able to see glimpses of either Basile or guards or even other servants.
Breathing heavily, trying to calm herself down, (Y/N) straightened and pressed a hand to her side, wanting to even her breaths so she didn't accidentally rip her stitches. Letting her eyes wander around the room—looking for anything that could help aide them—she only saw blind spots and limited space.
How do we win this?
"I see how often your eyes wander, servant," Jannali laughed, her footsteps light as she paced the room, twirling her weapon as she did so. "It isn't wise to do that during a fight."
"Don't talk to him," Adrian scowled in spite. "You're not even deserving of that."
Jannali's light-humored expression died at his words, her lips curling back into a sneer as she stopped pacing to lunge forward, sticking her spear into the ground before using her upper body strength to spin herself around and knock (Y/N) into Adrian. Both grunted from the impact as she merely landed gracefully on her feet with a laugh.
"How sad," she purred as her head tilted to the side, her dark locks flowing off her shoulder. "I expected better from you, little Prince."
"Fuck you," Adrian hissed, staggering upward before helping (Y/N) up, his arm already darkened with a bruise from where he hit the concrete. "With a shitty move like that and you say you expect better from us? Don't make me laugh."
Raising his sword, he attacked a nearby guard and in what seemed like a second, had him disarmed and on his knees with a slashed throat. (Y/N), sensing what he was doing after the second guard fell, also picked herself up and rushed at a guard, this time a woman who had her teeth grit in determination as she tried to stave off her sword. But it was no use since Adrian had kicked a staggering guard over which in turn crashed into the woman, their choked gasps cut off when (Y/N) unceremoniously raised her sword and plunged it down into both of their chests.
She didn't feel bad killing them.
They attacked first, and for doing such a thing, she could not forgive them.
Spotting a blur of movement out of the corner of her, (Y/N) turned quickly just in time to parry the sudden strike that Jannali tried to land on her. Pushing the Queen away, she backed up to where Adrian stood, both raising their swords against her with narrowed eyes.
"Going after my guards?" Jannali tutted, almost all of her white teeth showing from the wide smile she flashed them. "How sad, dear Carmellians."
"You don't seem to have such good fighters surrounding you, Queen Jannali," Adrian announced rigidly and emotionlessly, not sharing her same amusement. "I find that even more sad if you don't have reliable comrades."
"Oh?" She cocked her head, kicking away one of the nearby bodies surrounding her. "These things? These were just worthless slaves brought out before my real guards to see if they were strong enough to survive or were just waste to have around if they were killed. I'm glad you so kindly helped dispose of them for me."
"You're cruel," (Y/N) spat. "You do this to people, your subjects who look up to you!?"
"So what if I do?" Jannali laughed.
"Disgusting," (Y/N) shook her head, closing her eyes and exhaling softly as she tried to reign in her untempered anger. "No wonder your people escape and run away here. If they're living under a tyrant such as yourself, I understand."
Jannali's eyebrow visibly twitched.
It was very common that the general population of Chalar was poor and malnourished. They were unhappy with the current government and ruler, and therefore, many people often tried to smuggle themselves out to Carmellia or other surrounding countries. And no matter how hard Jannali tried, no matter how many regulations or laws she passed, and no matter how many guards were sent out, she could not stop them.
And that irritated her greatly.
"What the fuck do you know?" Jannali derided mockingly, however her persona of ease dropping tremendously to show just how truly irritated she was by what (Y/N) had revealed. "You're nothing but a servant, and a lover of the Prince, no less! All that you're good for is pleasing one in—"
Her words were cut off from the loud yell of anger that came from Adrian, his sword ramming down on her staff with power that made her muscles strain and tremble as she tried to stave him off.
"I'll cut your tongue out," Adrian shouted, pushing down even further on his weapon.
"My," Jannali chuckled, her green eyes lit with amusement. "Guess I hit a sore spot..."
(Y/N) could only gape in astonishment as the two engaged in almost a dance, one that was more violent than graceful, pushing each other harder and harder to see who would fall first and who would admit defeat. Her eyes could almost not keep up with them as they practically demolished the small space by leaping over obstacles and crashing into walls. She once had to push herself into a roll to move out of the way of their carnage. But when she was upright again, she was greeted with a more than welcoming sight: Adrian with both sword and spear held at Jannali's throat while she lay on the ground, her breathing heavy whilst her glare was full of unbridled contempt.
"Give up," Adrian stated coldly. "You've lost."
