Ace's grin was mischievous, his gaze locking with the wind user's astonished expression.
"Since we can't have a proper chat right now, why don't you head on ahead? I'll catch up with you later." Ace directed his words to both Luffy and Y/N. But before Luffy could respond, Y/N interjected.
"Luffy, I can catch up with everyone later." Y/N turned to Ace, a playful grin spreading across his face. "You up for giving them the old wind and fire combo?"
Ace's smirk grew wider. "I thought you'd never ask!"
"Alright, but hurry!" Luffy urged Y/N, before sprinting towards the crew. "Let's go!"
Nami, already suspicious, glanced back with concern. "What!? What about Y/N!? Who's that guy he's with?" Despite her questions, she followed the crew, her curiosity piqued.
As the sound of his crewmates' footsteps faded, Y/N stood side by side with Ace, ready for action.
"Move," Smoker commanded, his voice stern and unyielding.
"I'm afraid that's a no can do," Ace replied, a sea of flames erupting from his body to form a blazing wall that separated the two groups.
Without missing a beat, Y/N swung his hand, directing the flames to scatter at varying heights, targeting the marines. The chaotic scene was met with shouts and confusion from the marines, while Y/N and Ace exchanged knowing smirks before splitting up, encircling Smoker. Y/N used a tailwind to sprint at incredible speed, while Ace's fire illuminated the wind, creating a spiraling wind-fire tornado that trapped the marines.
Annoyed, Smoker clicked his tongue and transformed into smoke, joining the elemental battle. "Kuki Kuki Shake!" Y/N shouted, using the spiraling fire within his wind to compress Smoker's smoke until it dissipated, sending Smoker crashing to the ground.
The force of the attack blew Y/N and Ace back as well, landing them on a small shop. They quickly got up, hearing the shouts of marines nearby and started to run.
With a playful punch, Y/N hit Ace, whose face turned to fire. Laughing, Ace reciprocated, their elements flickering and merging as they play-fought, blowing away marines until they finally lost them. They high-fived, solidly human again.
"It's been so long, Y/N," Ace remarked, slowing down.
"A year or two years now?" Y/N chuckled, and Ace smiled back.
"Anyways, I thought you were still with that group. What are you doing here?" Y/N asked.
"So you've heard," Ace said, somewhat sheepishly. "Honestly, I thought you'd be mad at me."
"Who says I'm not?" Y/N's eyes narrowed, but Ace laughed, clapping him on the back.
"Oh well, my bad, my bad. So, there's no chance of asking you to join?"
"Nope."
"I thought so—"
"But not for the reason you're thinking. Luffy's going to be king of the pirates," Y/N declared with a smirk. Ace looked stunned for a moment before bursting into laughter.
"Did you and Luffy get my message in Drum?" Ace asked, still grinning.
"Nah, we didn't," Y/N replied as they reached the dock, spotting the Going Merry in the distance.
"Race you there!" Y/N shouted, launching himself with a gust of wind. Ace followed, a trail of fire in his wake.
Y/N landed on the deck, accidentally flattening Zoro beneath him.
