jake sat on the bench next to sunghoon, his heart racing as he prepared to spill his feelings. he could feel sunghoon's eyes on him, expectant yet patient.
"sunghoon, i've been thinking a lot lately," jake began, his voice trembling slightly. "about us... about how i feel."
sunghoon leaned in a little closer, his expression softening. "yeah? what have you been thinking?"
jake took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. "i think... i think i like you, sunghoon. like, really like you."
there was a brief silence as sunghoon absorbed jake's words. jake's stomach twisted with anxiety, unsure of how sunghoon would respond.
before sunghoon could say anything, they were interrupted by a familiar, unwelcome voice.
"well, well, what do we have here?"
jake looked up to see minjun standing a few feet away, smirking at them. his presence sent a chill down jake's spine.
"minjun, what do you want?" sunghoon asked, his tone immediately defensive.
minjun ignored sunghoon, his eyes fixed on jake. "just out for a walk and happened to stumble upon you two. looks cozy."
jake felt a surge of anger. "why don't you mind your own business, minjun?"
minjun's smirk widened as he took a step closer. "oh, but it is my business, jake. you're interesting... more than you think."
sunghoon stood up, placing himself between jake and minjun. "back off, minjun. this has nothing to do with you."
minjun raised his hands in mock surrender, but there was a dangerous glint in his eyes. "relax, sunghoon. i'm just here to chat."
"well, we're not interested," sunghoon shot back, his voice tight with tension.
minjun glanced at jake again, his expression darkening. "you know, jake, you should be careful who you trust. some people aren't who they seem."
"what's that supposed to mean?" jake asked, his voice wavering.
minjun chuckled, turning to leave. "you'll figure it out eventually. see you around, jake."
as minjun walked away, jake felt a knot of unease settle in his stomach. he turned back to sunghoon, who looked just as unsettled.
"don't listen to him," sunghoon said, his voice firm. "he's just trying to mess with your head."
jake nodded, but the doubt had already taken root. "yeah... maybe you're right."
sunghoon sat back down next to jake, his expression softening again. "about what you said earlier... jake, i like you too. a lot."
jake felt a rush of relief and happiness at sunghoon's words, but the encounter with minjun had left him shaken.
"thanks, sunghoon," jake said quietly, leaning his head on sunghoon's shoulder. "i just... i don't know. minjun really gets under my skin."
"don't let him," sunghoon said, wrapping an arm around jake. "i'm here, okay? i'm not going anywhere."
jake smiled, comforted by sunghoon's words, but the lingering presence of minjun's threat still hung in the air.
"let's go," jake finally said, standing up. "i need to clear my head."
sunghoon nodded and stood up beside him, giving jake's hand a reassuring squeeze as they walked away from the park together.
