jake’s heart was still racing as he walked away from the park, his mind clouded with everything that had just happened. the kiss. the look on sunghoon’s face.

the way his own tears had mixed with it all. it was overwhelming. his hands were trembling as he shoved them into his pockets, trying to steady his breathing.

what had he done?

he wasn’t ready for that, not yet. but in the moment, it had felt like the only thing he could do. like all the emotions he’d been keeping locked up had burst out in that one desperate move. now, though, he was left with the aftermath, unsure of what it all meant.

...

as he reached his dorm, jungwon was sitting at his desk, his headphones in as he typed away on his laptop. jake hesitated for a second, then slowly pushed the door open, stepping inside. jungwon noticed him almost immediately, pulling out one of his earbuds.

"hey," jungwon greeted, glancing up at jake. "you good?"

jake just nodded, avoiding his friend’s eyes. "yeah... just tired."

jungwon raised an eyebrow, clearly not convinced, but didn’t push it further. "you look like you’ve been through something."

jake flopped onto his bed, staring up at the ceiling. "you could say that."

"wanna talk about it?" jungwon asked cautiously, turning his chair to face him.

jake closed his eyes for a moment, his mind replaying the scene with sunghoon over and over again. "i kissed sunghoon."

jungwon’s eyebrows shot up. "wait, what? you- what- like, you kissed him?"

"yeah," jake said quietly, feeling the weight of it again. "i don’t even know why. it just... happened."

jungwon leaned back in his chair, letting out a low whistle. "damn. and what did he do?"

jake opened his eyes, staring blankly at the ceiling. "he kissed me back. but... i don’t know, jungwon. everything’s so messed up. i’m still mad at him, but at the same time, i can’t stop thinking about him."

jungwon nodded slowly, his expression serious. "that sounds confusing as hell, hyung. but... i guess feelings don’t always make sense."

jake sighed. "yeah, no kidding."

for a while, neither of them spoke. the silence was heavy, but comforting in a way. jungwon always knew when to let jake process things without pushing too hard. after a few minutes, jungwon cleared his throat.

"so... what now? are you gonna talk to him again?"

jake sat up, running a hand through his hair. "i don’t know. i told him i needed time. i’m not ready to forgive him yet, but... i don’t want to cut him off either."

jungwon gave him a sympathetic look. "take the time you need. no one’s rushing you."

jake nodded, appreciating the reassurance. but even though jungwon’s words made sense, they didn’t ease the turmoil swirling inside him. he knew he had to figure this out eventually. but for now, all he wanted was to escape his own thoughts.

"let’s go get something to eat," jake said suddenly, standing up. "i need a distraction."

jungwon grinned, grabbing his jacket. "now you’re talking. ramen?"

"always," jake replied, trying to force a smile.

they left the dorm together, heading towards the small ramen shop just off campus. the evening air was cool, and for a brief moment, jake allowed himself to relax. the weight of the situation with sunghoon was still there, but being with jungwon helped him push it to the back of his mind, even if just for a little while.

...

the next few days passed in a blur. jake tried to stay busy, throwing himself into his classes and hanging out with jungwon and the others. but no matter how hard he tried, his thoughts kept drifting back to sunghoon. that kiss had opened up something inside him that he wasn’t ready to face. he wanted to forgive sunghoon, but he was scared—scared of getting hurt again, scared of letting his guard down.

then, one afternoon, as jake was sitting in the campus café, his phone buzzed with a text.

hoonie: i’ve been thinking about you a lot. i don’t want to pressure you, but i miss you. can we meet up? no expectations, i just... want to see you.

jake stared at the message for a long time, his heart pounding in his chest. part of him wanted to say no, to keep avoiding the situation. but another part of him. the part that still missed sunghoon despite everything, wanted to see him too.

after what felt like hours, jake finally typed a response.

jake: okay. let’s meet tomorrow..

the next day, jake was a bundle of nerves. he hadn’t seen sunghoon since that kiss, and the thought of being alone with him again made his stomach flip. but he knew this conversation was necessary. they couldn’t keep avoiding each other forever.

they agreed to meet at the same park, the place where everything had happened. when jake arrived, sunghoon was already there, sitting on the bench. he looked up as jake approached, his expression a mix of hope and uncertainty.

"hey," sunghoon said softly, standing up.

"hey," jake replied, his voice quiet.

they stood there for a moment, neither of them sure how to start. finally, sunghoon broke the silence.

"i’m glad you came."

jake nodded, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. "yeah. me too, i guess."

sunghoon gestured to the bench. "wanna sit?"

jake sat down, sunghoon following suit. the tension between them was palpable, but jake could sense that sunghoon was being careful, giving him space.

"i’ve been thinking a lot," jake started, his voice barely above a whisper. "about us. about everything that happened."

sunghoon stayed quiet, waiting for jake to continue.

"i’m still mad at you," jake admitted, his gaze fixed on the ground. "but... i can’t pretend i don’t miss you. and that kiss... it wasn’t just a mistake."

sunghoon’s breath hitched slightly, and jake glanced up to see him looking at him with wide eyes.

"i don’t know what it means yet," jake continued, "but i don’t want to lose you. even if i’m scared, i don’t want to push you away anymore."

sunghoon reached out, his fingers gently brushing against jake’s hand. "i’ll wait as long as you need. i just want to be here with you, jake."

for the first time in days, jake felt a small flicker of hope. maybe things weren’t perfect, and maybe they still had a long way to go. but for now, sitting here with sunghoon, it felt like a start.

"we’ll figure it out," jake whispered, his hand squeezing sunghoon’s gently. "together."
