jake woke up the next morning with a heavy heart. the events of last night still lingered in his mind, and the ache of betrayal settled deep in his chest. he couldn’t believe it. all this time, sunghoon had been playing him, making a joke out of his feelings. how could he be so stupid?

he dragged himself out of bed, his body feeling heavier than usual. jungwon was already up, busying himself with some homework at the desk. jake thought about telling him everything but held back. he wasn’t ready to talk about it. not yet.

jake washed up quickly, hoping the cold water would shake off the terrible feelings. but it didn’t help. all he could think about was sunghoon’s smile, their moments together, and that stupid video of the bet. it was all fake. he had to confront him—he needed answers.

as jake made his way to the cafeteria, he spotted sunghoon sitting with jay and heeseung, laughing about something. the sight of them together made jake’s blood boil. he stormed over, his heart pounding in his chest, and slammed his hands down on the table.

sunghoon looked up, startled by jake’s sudden arrival. “jake? what’s wrong?

"what's wrong?!" jake spat, his voice trembling with anger. "how about you tell me about the bet, sunghoon?"

the color drained from sunghoon’s face. jay and heeseung exchanged uneasy glances, clearly aware of what jake was talking about. jake’s eyes were burning with rage, his heart pounding so loudly he could barely think straight.

"jake, let me explain-" sunghoon started, but jake cut him off.

"explain what? how you thought it would be fun to play with my feelings? how you made me believe you actually cared about me when all you wanted was to win some stupid bet?"

"it wasn’t like that," sunghoon said, standing up and trying to reach out for jake, but jake stepped back, his eyes filled with hurt.

"then what was it like?" jake demanded, his voice breaking. "because from where i’m standing, it seems pretty clear that you never gave a damn about me."

sunghoon's face twisted with guilt. "it started as a joke, jake. i swear, i didn’t think... i didn’t know i’d actually start to like you."

"like me?" jake laughed bitterly, wiping at his eyes. "you expect me to believe that after everything?"

heeseung and jay remained silent, looking down at the table, too ashamed to say anything. sunghoon took a step closer, his expression pleading.

"jake, i know i messed up, okay? i’m sorry. i’m so, so sorry. but i swear, the way i feel about you now is real. i never meant to hurt you."

jake shook his head, backing away from sunghoon. "i can’t do this. not right now. just... leave me alone."

before sunghoon could say anything else, jake turned and walked out of the cafeteria, his heart shattering with every step.

...

jake spent the rest of the day avoiding sunghoon. he couldn’t stand the thought of seeing him, of hearing more excuses or apologies. his mind kept replaying everything over and over—the moments they shared, the way sunghoon looked at him, the things he said. was any of it real? or had it all been part of the game?

as the evening approached, jake found himself back at the park, sitting on the bench where he had confessed his feelings to sunghoon. the same bench where he had felt happy and safe, where everything had seemed so perfect. now, it just felt like a cruel reminder of how naive he had been.

he heard footsteps behind him but didn’t bother to turn around. he already knew who it was.

"jake..." sunghoon’s voice was soft, filled with regret.

jake sighed, still staring at the ground. "what do you want, sunghoon?"

sunghoon sat down next to him, keeping his distance. "i just... i need you to know that i’m sorry. i never should’ve made that bet. it was stupid, and i regret it more than anything."

jake clenched his fists, the hurt still fresh in his chest. "why did you do it, then?"

sunghoon hesitated, running a hand through his hair. "at first, it was just for fun. i didn’t think i’d actually get close to you. but then, the more time we spent together, the more i realized i liked you. it wasn’t just about the bet anymore. it was real."

"but you didn’t stop," jake said quietly. "you didn’t tell me the truth."

"i was scared," sunghoon admitted. "i thought if you found out, you’d hate me. and i was right."

jake finally looked up, his eyes filled with pain. "how can i trust you now, sunghoon? how do i know you won’t hurt me again?"

sunghoon swallowed hard, his voice breaking. "i don’t deserve your trust, jake. but i want to earn it back. please, just give me a chance to make things right."

jake stared at him for a long moment, his heart torn between the hurt and the feelings he still had for sunghoon. but right now, he couldn’t give an answer.

"i don’t know if i can," jake whispered, standing up. "i need time."

sunghoon watched him go, his heart sinking as jake walked away. he knew he had messed up, and now all he could do was hope that one day, jake would be able to forgive him.
