15: Regret.

     Kiana's fluttered her eyes open only to shut it back the same moment, her hand lifted to her face to block it from the bright light stinging it.

"Don't move too much, you just woke up. " a voice she didn't recognize said.

" wh-" she went into a fit of cough as her throat hurt.

"You shouldn't say anything for now, you have been screaming in pain for days now, your throat will hurt and so will the rest of your body, "

Kiana opened her eyes once again, not closing it back this time as it had adjusted to the light, she looked around the room she was in, it was a beautiful room painted in Azure, she was on a soft big bed with Kiki beside her.

How did she get there? And who was the woman beside her?

" I am Kiki." Kiki informed, seeing her confused face.

Kiana relaxed only to frown again.

"Mama and Baba brought you here yesterday when they couldn't find an healer to cure you, my healing powers are better than any of the healers in Volta so they brought you to me, " Kiki said as she cleaned Kiana's forehead.

" do you- " Kiana paused, groaning from the pain in her throat, Kiki helped her with a glass of water which she gulped. " what is wrong with me? "

" You had no wound on your body, not even a scar and the pain you felt was from an internal force, one only you can explain, "

" explain?"

" yes,"

" but I don't know, I have never felt this much pain before, not since I woke up, "

Kiki sighed, "Mama told me what happened to you,  I cannot imagine not remembering my life, I am sorry, "

"It's not your fault, that is my fate, "

Kiki held Kiana's hand, " when I checked you for scars, I found a marking on your body, the Amour marking and I have a theory on what could have caused your pain."

"Theory? "

"Yes, you have the amour marking, the marking of a dragon human soul mate, "

"You mean the Red marking on my chest? "

" exactly?"

" what does it have to do with my pain?" Kiana questioned, Standing from the bed in fright, Kiki helped her rest her back on the headboard.

"Do you have a bonded yet? "

Kiana nodded, her breathe heavy. "did do this to me? "

Kiki's eyes widened, she stood to her feet and paced in front of Kiana, " he didn't tell you? "

"Tell me what? " though Kiana tried to stay calm, Kiki's reaction had her lips quivering.

Kiki shook her head, unable to tell her more about the bond, she would have told her if this never happened, what she couldn't put her hand on was why her bonded did not tell her of this.

" what is it Kiki?  You are scaring me."

Kiki stopped pacing." when was the last time you met your bonded? "

" a week ago why? Is there something I should know? "

" I can't tell you, it is not in my place to tell  you such, you have to hear from him yourself, "

"I can't, "

" why? "

" he is never returning again, I sent him away, "

Kiki shook her head, anger bubbling inside her, there were few human dragons left, if she did sent him away then she must have hurt him deeply. "You don't know what you have done. "

" I know, "

" no you don't, Human dragons live a lonely life, their friends die before them and so do every one they know, only their soulmates stay with them till they die, they are lonely pitiful creature. He had been searching for you for years and all you could do was send him away? "

" i had no idea." Kiana said, her eyes lifeless at the realization of what she had done. Tears rolled down her cheek.

They both stayed in silence, Kiana had regretted her action since the moment she sent him away, she had sent the only person who could make her feel what home really was away, she had been too absorbed in her thoughts.

Kiana hated her impulsiveness, perhaps the pain was punishment for her. " is that why I am feeling this pain? " she asked.

Kiki sighed, " Get some rest Kiana, Mama and Baba have been worried about you for days now, we can talk after you are well rested. Hopefully. " then she walked out of the room, leaving Kiana to her thoughts.

Kiki returned later with Mama, Papa and Ana, they were glad to see her alright, They spent the evening chitchatting, before they were called down for dinner, leaving Kiana alone and to her thoughts. 

She had only met Astor for a short while, she knew nothing about him or his family, how could she have known what Kiki did?

Yet Kiana regretted her action since the moment she tried to kill him to the moment she told him to stay away from her.

"Don't beat yourself up Kiana, it's not your fault that you don't know anything about your Bonded, neither are you wrong for wanting to leave him. " Kiki said, putting down the tray of food beside Kiana.

"will I ever see him again? "

" you will, your Bonded must be a young Human dragon, thinking he could stay away from you. If he stays too far from you he could be driven to madness, "

"And the pain? Will it return? "

"I can't say for sure if it will but you need to be prepared, just in case it does, "

Kiana held her left wrist where the red gold mark wrapped around it like a bangle, her heart hurt with rejection, she studied Kiki. " can I ask you a question? "

Kiki nodded, " go ahead. "

" how do you know all of this? "

Kiki smiled," I have a bonded too, " she uncovered the handkerchief wrapping her wrist, Kiana had not noticed it there, on her wrist was a red gold marking swirling around each other, Kiana couldn't help but marvel at the sight.

"It glows? Why does mine not glow?" she asked, rubbing her own wrist, Kiki blushed at her question.

"Your bonding is not complete, once it is, your bond will be stronger and you will hold a piece of each other with you,"

" piece? "

Kiki pointed to her green eyes, " I had brown eyes till I completed the bond, he had gold hair and now he has black eyes, "

Kiana gasped, she had no idea it was like that, how much more did she not know, she took her eyes from Kiki's wrist back to her face," tell me everything I need to know. I can't wait till he tells me, tell me. Please. " she pleaded, desperate to know what she had almost lost.
