5: Lullaby.

Two months, it had been two months since she saw that man, since he asked to meet her again.

" Why didn't you return?" Kiana asked, still as calm as the ocean itself despite the anger bubbling deep in her.

It took her long to realize how fast she had trusted the stranger, it wasn't like to trust like that, Kiana didn't need her memories to know that.

However, the way she had trusted the blue eyed stranger, she had trusted him with her life, she had done what he asked of her without questioning or regret.

Without caring what his intentions were, it angered as well as scared her.

"I did," he replied.

" You did?" Kiana scoffed, disbelief filling her voice, she had not lost her calm since she awoke however, the nonchalant man before did enough to provoke a reaction.

" I waited for you all night, I believed you would come for me, you made a promise, one you should keep and here you are telling me you came," As Kiana spoke, her voice raised to higher octaves.

The others sitting by the table had their jaws dropped, just who was the woman to speak to their comerade like that?

"Miss," The lady in yellow, stated, " you should mind your words when you speak to-"

The blue eyed man raised his hand, " let her be, Liana,"

" But Astor," Liana called in disbelief.

"What's going on?" Adeline asked, standing beside Kiana with Ana on her heel.

Only then did Kiana realize how much she had lost her cool, her eyes eyed everyone in the room, then she turned to Adeline.

" I am sorry Mama," Kiana handed the tray in her hand to Ana then she walked out, ignoring the calls of her mother.

Waking up had been the most horrible thing for her, perhaps if she had died then she wouldn't be going through what she was.

She wouldn't admit, however, Kiana had hoped the man knew her, perhaps he was a past friend for her to have his Dragon seal, she needed not be told to know the seal was important to the man, though he had acted like it was dirt upon his shoes.

She had hoped that the man knew of her origin, that the man could help her get home, perhaps she had been too willful and optimistic.

The hopelessness of everything weighed her down and she found herself crying, the tears she had not shed in two months returned to her.

The realization that she probably had no one waiting for her crushed her soul, making her breathless.

" Don't cry Kiana, you will have to forget it," she found herself murmuring.

Nightfall came faster than Kiana had anticipated, she had spent hours exploring the streets of Volta, the beautiful Swirl dancers, the beautiful pearls dazzling around the houses, the lanterns of the night, people chatting and laughing together.

Families exploring the streets.

Kiana found her usual spot, a high abandoned building that oversaw everything happening in the pearl market. Her heart warmed at the sight.

" It's beautiful isn't it?" A voice she recognized all to well said.

Kiana remained unmoving as Astor sat with her, they sat in silence, enjoying the beautiful view together, Kiana resisted the urge to lay her head on his shoulder.

Shock spiraled through her as a wave of headache washed through her and she found herself in a familiar scene, the difference had been that it wasn't the pearl market but a more beautiful market.

She sat with a man, her head leaning on his shoulder as he spoke to others, the memory dispersed and reality returned.

She looked around, what was that? Had she just seen a fragment of her past? Who was the man whose shoulder she laid her head on?

" I-" Astor's word distracted her thoughts to which Kiana glanced at him, his gaze remained fixed on the view ahead.

" You what?" She whispered.

"I have no excuse for not meeting with you,"

Kiana looked back to the view, " no, I blame myself for being too naive, it is unlike me,"

" You feel it too don't you?" Astor asked, " the feeling of familiarity, like we have met before?"

" Does it matter? you claim we haven't,"

" Right," Astor exhaled, it was unlike him, so unlike him to care or worry about people's feelings, so unlike him yet the question bubbled deep in him, it burnt his throat and fought to be left out.

Astor found himself himself giving in, with a fraustrated sigh, he asked." Are you okay?"

Kiana whipped her head to his, shocked to be asked such a question by the stranger, it had not occurred to her yet she realized she had been yearning to be asked that question.

Everytime Mama asked, it warmth her heart, every Papa asked, her heart shook with Joy however, sitting right there with the stranger asking her such question, not only shook her heart, it shook her soul.

Kiana's heart burnt in a pain she had never felt before, tears poured through her eyes to which she looked away from him.

He said nothing as Kiana poured out her heart in silence, though his heart ached, he had no idea what feeling it was he felt, it was too unlike him to care for someone, not even his squad made him care so much.

His heart burned at her pain.

A lullaby he had long ignored bubbled through his chest, Astor found himself singing it in the silent night.

Kiana's tears dried as the lullaby sent shockwaves through her heart, it filled it with so much warmth, she couldn't breathe.

By the time he was done singing, Kiana's gaze never left his neither did his leave hers, they gazed at each other in the silence, the wind serving as an entourage which carried the lullaby through the air.

Something snapped in Astor as he realized he cared too much about the strange woman and he averted his gaze, " we should return," he stated, standing to his feet and looking away from her.

Disappointment filled Kiana at his statement, " oh, " she whispered.

None of the exchanged a word as they returned that night, both with confliction closing their souls.
