Nothing could be heard— just the creaking of the floorboards beneath her feet.

Her breath hitched, as her hand hovered above the handle. It took every will in her mind to fight the urge to run away. She does not run away. She is not a coward. She always thought she wasn't a coward. But now, being here, after so many years, her nerves were on edge.

She felt that the impossible had happened. For the first time since childhood, she felt frightened.

It was quiet until it wasn't.

She felt that the thumping of her heart could be heard from a mile away. It was embarrassing...

Biting her lip, she forced the courage that had hidden itself moments prior to re-show itself as she pushed the door open.

Entering the room, her lips reflexively curled upward- into a light smile.

"Surprise?"
