"And what exactly have you done to her?" he asked, his tone still neutral. He continued to watch her closely, looking for any signs of deceit or deception in her expression or body language.

"You already know, don't you? You're a cop, Andrew worked in your area," she said.

Marcus's jaw twitched at her words, a flash of anger and disgust crossing his face at the mention of Andrew's name. He nodded grimly. "I know what you did," he said, his voice cold and flat. "But I want to hear you say it."

Marcus's eyes widened as Mae tried to walk away, his hand shooting out to grab her arm and hold her in place. "Not so fast," he said, his voice firm and commanding. "We're not done here yet."

"You can't arrest me," she threatened him.

Marcus's expression hardened at her threat, his grip on her arm tightening slightly. "Don't push your luck," he said, his voice deadly serious. "I may not be able to arrest you just yet, but I can make your life a whole lot harder if I have to." He held her gaze for a moment, his eyes burning into hers. He could see the fear and defiance in her eyes, but he wasn't going to back down.

"Now, we're going to have a chat," he said, his tone leaving no room for argument. "And you're going to tell me everything I want to know. Understood?"

Marcus nodded, satisfied that she had finally agreed to cooperate. He released his grip on her arm and took a step back, gesturing for her to follow him. He led her to a nearby empty classroom, motioning for her to take a seat at one of the desks.

Once she was seated, he leaned against the desk and fixed her with a stern glare. "Now, let's start from the beginning. I want to hear everything you know about this whole scheme, from start to finish."

"Fine, if you want the truth. I will give you it," Mae said firmly. Marcus nodded, crossing his arms as he listened intently. He could tell that she was finally ready to talk, and he didn't want to miss a single detail.

"The freshman part was true. Elaine grew an ego which she didn't see. She has bullied me and many others so we made a hate group towards her till now. We all had something in common and that was we all hated Elaine. We wanted revenge, so I hired people to scare her, to stop her shenanigans. We just wanted a peaceful last year of school without her sly digs and comments. Then I paid a trip to Andrew at the police station, he knew Elaine. He dated her older sister a year ago. So I asked him if my family paid him, would he join in the scare and he agreed. When I hired the others, they agreed faster than anything," Mae paused.

Marcus listened attentively to Mae's explanation, his expression gradually hardening as he took in the full extent of her plan and its consequences. He could feel the anger building inside him, but he tried to keep it in check. "So let me get this straight," he said, his voice low and measured. "You and your friends had a hate group against Elaine, and you decided to take things to the next level by hiring people to scare her. You didn't care about the harm or trauma it would cause her, as long as you got your 'peaceful last year.'"

"I am not finished," Mae threatened.

Marcus felt a flash of annoyance at her tone, but he kept his cool. "Fine, go on," he said, his voice tight.

"The night we planned it all, I saw you talking to her that night. She was too stubborn and I am glad she was. Her best friend, Sam. He heard me talking to the people on the phone, about an hour before we were planning to get Elaine. He was trying to tell me and the others that it was all wrong. He was going to go to the cops and I couldn't let that happen when he turned around. One of the members I hired stabbed him, five times in the back and buried him, in the same hole where you would have found Elaine that night," She paused before continuing.

"When we had Elaine in the street, one of them hit her across the head with a shovel and we dragged her to the hole. We thought she was dead so we buried her when they started to put soil over her. I could see her eyes opening. She was alive but I felt so much adrenaline, I couldn't stop those people. I knew she was alive, so did Andrew but I wanted sweet revenge," Mae said.

Marcus listened to her confession in stunned silence, his heart racing in his chest as he processed the information. He felt a wave of anger and disgust wash over him as he heard the details of their plan, the way they had coldly plotted and carried out their scheme, with no regard for the lives they were ruining. "So you weren't satisfied with just scaring her a little," he said, his voice cold. "You wanted to murder her."

"I guess," Mae replied.

Marcus clenched his jaw, trying to keep his emotions in check. This whole situation was more serious than he had imagined, and he needed to keep a level head if he was going to get to the bottom of it all. "You realize you've just confessed to being an accessory to murder, right?" he said, his voice deadly serious.

Marcus's eyes widened in shock and horror as he watched the bullet tear through Mae's body. He was frozen in place for a moment, his mind racing to process what had just happened. And then adrenaline kicked in, and he bolted to the window, trying to catch a glimpse of whoever had fired the shot.

Marcus swore under his breath, his eyes scanning the area outside the window, desperately trying to catch sight of the person who had taken the shot. But they were already gone, vanished into the shadows like a ghost.
