Chapter 8

We walk to the food court for lunch again, my hand in Peeta's and Finnick and Annie next to us, we're just talking a bit. Asking what it was like for them going from best friends to a couple.

"It was a pretty easy transition, we were practically already a couple with how we were acting around each other." Annie explains.

"That's cool, that you seemed to know what you both wanted before even saying anything," Peeta notes.

"Yeah, it was pretty easy for us. And by the looks of it, the two of you have adjusted quickly," Finn jokes making Peeta laugh and me blush.

Peeta smiles over at me and kisses the top of my head.

They're right, we adjusted quickly.

Never once did I think I would be comfortable with someone the way I'm comfortable with Peeta. In fact if you were to tell me before we had our first kiss that I'd act like this around anyone- even him, I would suggest you check yourself into an asylum. However, looking back on that short amount of time before the party, I was clearly the crazy one.

The truth is, Peeta and I had never really been apart. We were always those two kids that everyone thought was a couple but I would always correct them. I remember when I had a crush on him and decided to stop hanging out with him so much people accused us of breaking up despite us never being together.

Until now, of course.

Something about this is great. Feeling like I have my best friend back in my life is great in itself, but for some reason, him holding me and kissing me is a million times better than just being friends ever was. Now we're undeniably inseparable, and I will never want to go back to being in the friend zone with the guy that's claimed to have a huge crush on me since kindergarten.

There's not too many other guys who could say the same to their girlfriend.

Once we got to lunch, Jo was making jokes about how she felt replaced and that she'd have to find a new new best friend to which I replied; "No one can replace you, Jo," and she seemed to believe me. Jo proved to me that she's great friend even after a short period of time, and I won't let a relationship come in between her and I, considering she understands me like no one else does.

But lunch keeps going good, the guys make jokes, the girls update everyone on the latest gossip despite it being so soon in the school year. Already there seems to be a ton and apparently Peeta and I are involved just a little, but since Glimmer is more in with that crowd her and Marvel's new relationship is currently prioritized in the school's lime - light, which Peeta and I are slightly grateful for.

Even though we both seem to be hearing things, we're not exactly paying tons of attention. We both put a few thoughts and opinions in occasionally but right now I'm just kinda lost looking up at him as he stares down at me. His eyes are like the ocean and I can't seem to tear them away.

"Hey Peeta," I mumble, trying to keep everyone else somewhat out of our personal little loop.

"Yeah Bow?" He answers, smiling down at me.

When we were little, and I was first learning how to do archery with the help of my dad, he always called me "Bow" as in Bow and Arrow. It had been a long time since I had heard the very familiar nickname again, and immediately it felt good. Like nothing had really changed between us even after all those years.

I smile a little back, silently informing him that I noticed the reuse of his famous nickname for me. "I was wondering if you would want to go to dinner with Prim and I tonight? You know, so she can warm back up to you again."
