Chapter 36 - Glint

You were already long awake, not too long after the three of your ex-teammates left you alone.

To think that Ghost thought just hitting the back of your head could hold you unconscious until they returned, he really underestimated your strength. Indeed, you aren't as trained to resist a drug injected into you, but a mere punch? You were already facing that more than enough to resist that much.

But it's not like even if you're awake, you're going to escape from there. You see no point in doing so. If all, it will only make the situation severe by poor choices you might make. So you just sit there, alone in the safe house, waiting for their arrival as you contemplate all the choices you can make.

If only you remember all the game clearly, if only you can reach down to open your journal to at least help you a little to assess the situation, if only... You shake your head at the thoughts. All of those are only an "if only." What you need now is the real decision, not a mere of your faint memory about the game. But a real choice you have to make based solely on the real situation you are currently in.

At this point, once you heard your dad's voice from the radio—ex-dad, as you refused to address him as such after he left you and your mother—you know the plot has changed. And it's not a small matter; you're sure the entire plot had drifted way too far from the original one.

And just then you realise that you fucked up.

Your knowledge won't help you again. You were, once again, left alone in the unknown world with no one to guide you. Just like how no one came to help you in your previous life. You thought that if you'd at least tried to do something here, the outcome would be different from your previous life, but it seems as though fate likes to play with you. Like you are its precious toy to be toyed with. Like your life means nothing to anyone. Not even to yourself.

You let out a sigh as you leaned back against the chair, looking up at the ceiling that only holds one weak bulb of light right above you.

You closed your eyes as you tried to think of something else. If the end would be like this, at least after coming this far, you still want to give your best. Even if it's only for your own sake and nobody else's.

As your mind swarmed through your head, you noticed how the safe house slowly came to life once you realised the team was finally back. You wonder when they will finally pay you a visit. To maybe interrogate the shit out of you. Well, not a maybe, but most likely.

You open your eyes as you look ahead again; right across from you was the door leading to where the team is staying. You could faintly make out Price talking to someone. You assumed at how his voice sounds; it seems he's talking with someone he despised. Shepherd, maybe?

You are sure it was around this time when Task Force 141 finally gathered together after being separated for such a long time and found out the mole. The thought subconsciously made you laugh, as you didn't see it coming that you're, in their eyes, one of the moles too.

After some times, the other room fell silent, and you assumed the captain was finally done talking with whoever that is. And now, when you tried to sharpen your hearing, you heard some footsteps slowly approaching your room.

Is it the time now? Will Price at least trust me? Even a little? You couldn't help but let the hope linger. After all, he's the one that brought you here. To let you lead him with your information. But still, even Ghost and Soap, let alone Rodolfo, who knew you long before Price, doesn't trust you anymore. What makes you think that your beloved captain would trust you? But what about Roach? I saved his life; if it wasn't for me, he's already long buried 6 feet under.
