Chapter 41 - Haze

What would you do when you know your child is not a child? More so, the so-called child knows about what is going to happen in the future. 

Will you interrogate your child? Will you act like nothing happened? Or will you think the idea is ridiculous?

And yet here he is, reading his daughter's diary for the first time out of curiosity. But what he finds immediately flips his whole world entirely. 

Even so, how could he bring hurt to his own daughter? His own flesh. His light and life. 

But then, what should he do about it? 

That's what Vladimir Makarov has been thinking about ever since he stumbled upon the harsh truth. 

At first, he tried to deny what he saw. Thinking it's just his daughter's imagination that is playing inside her pretty mind. 

But as time goes by, it seems to not be the case. 

The harsh realities keep facing him again and again. Just like how his daughter writes in her diary. The diary that he bought for her, thinking that his daughter really likes writing and drawing. He just wants to make her happy. To make his world proud of him.

Is that too much to ask? 

Vladimir Makarov knows he's not the best of a man. But when he first met his wife, it was love at first sight. The woman succeeds in intrigue him. And so, without further talking or something unnecessary, he decided to confess his feelings. Fortunately, his wife reciprocated it. 

That's the first time he felt so happy to be alive.

And when his daughter is born into this world, it's like he's living his best life. He couldn't ask for more. His own little family is his sanctuary. His ultimate happiness. 

Waking up in the morning, getting ready, breakfast with his wife and little daughter, then going to work. When he's going home, he knows his little family is waiting for him. So he doesn't need to worry about anything else. He already has it all with them in his life.

If only that could stay that way... 

The truth is, he's trying.

Trying to prevent all he could gather from his daughter's diary from happening. But unfortunately, fate never had the same idea as him. Even if he already tried all he could think of, it still happens. 

One by one, they are breaking his resolve. 

Breaking what he always believes. 

But if that's all that happened, he thinks all those things are not enough to make him hate his own child. To make him finally leave his family behind without any words. 

The last line that makes him finally snap is when he realises something inevitable. Something that he never thought of. Something no one could prevent to happen. Because it's bound to happen. And nothing could stop it. 

Himself.

Not having the best childhood, seeing with his own eyes how his mother killed herself by jumping from a train, leaving him with his abusive father, is enough to make a child have a twisted mind.

And he never noticed about it until then, when he stumbled upon his daughter's diary. 

He believes he changed once he married his wife. And his wife also believes in his change. More so, he tried his best to be the best father his daughter could get. He wants to prove that he's not the same as his abusive father despite living with him until he gets out of the house and joins the military.
